Been after one for my little sisters new car. Usually swing 25% staff discount too. Heat and thanks OP!

I gave up waiting for Halfords website to function, needs an MOT..

re: 'Last time this was at this price is went to nearly 1000 degress, when they are gone they are gone!' - that must have been a decade ago - before bluetooth was invented ;-)

Not for me, - if you have a car that has this style of fitment then I would imagine its of an age or feature spec where bluetooth isn't fitted - thus it would be far better to by one of these types of radios with bluetooth fitted (IMHO).

Looks like it hasn't got support for A2DP or even bluetooth ? Surely this can't be the case in this day and age.

Cheap stereo to replace the failing one in the wifey's car. Fitting kit £8 sorted.

I think you both have expectations beyond the price point. You will be hard pressed to find anything of comparable brand and spec that also has Bluetooth/A2DP for £40.

Thanks

GF put one of these in her car a couple of weeks ago. Nice little stereo for the money.

Easy fitting if you already have a similar aftermarket stereo in there (she did). Decent sound. Expecting bluetooth at this price point (at least, from the likes of Pioneer/Sony/Kenwood etc) is probably a bit silly. You can plug your iPod in direct and control if via the front panel on this. Or, you can just leave a little USB stick plugged in (get one of the Cruzer Fit ones or something). I prefer this as bluetooth is just a constant drain on my phone battery anway.

Oh, and it doesn't support M4A files.

Good price. Heat.

When you're browsing files on USB, what is shown on screen? Does it show any details, like file/folder names or does it just list numbers?

Can't remember! I can remember that when it plays a track it shows the artist, title and, I think, the album title (not 100% sure on that last one though) or you can switch it so it just shows the clock, or you can go old skool and have it show a spectrum analyser (wooo!).

So it certainly accesses the ID3 tags. Not sure what your browsing and selecting options are tho ....

Thirded. I have one in my car.

The GF uses a similar small stick (but not this exact model) the advantage over a standard stick being the obvious that it's a lot harder to catch it and break it by accident if it's sticking out the front of your dashboard.

According to pioneer webpage, yes it does,

Not sure when browsing (have mine on ramdom all) but when playing it displays the Artist name and song title (all my files are WMA)

In answer to my own question, if you want blue tooth then it looks like you need model DEH-4400BT or get the parrot BT adaptor.

Been close to getting this from elsewhere, so purchased at this price. Thanks

better than The 50 sony one from argos?

Just realised that the stereo I have is the MVH-1400ub - the main difference is to this one is the mvh has no CD........

Manual for this one can be found here

Can I add this to a car that already has a factory fit head unit?
I.e. can I power it from a power source and connect the pre-amp Line out connectors into the Aux In socket of the factory fit unit?
This will allow the "new" unit to be able to provide the Ipod/USB Stick functionality to the factory unit that does not have this......

As with 99% of other stereos you will need a
Your car to ISO connector
ISO to Pioneer connector.

You may be lucky enough for you car to already be ISO or the current stereo has that connection on it.
Simples

I already have a Pioneer head unit, so would this be an easy install where I can just swap them? I've still got the silver key thingies that you use to pop the base out

...bought anyway, been after a USB stick compatible stereo. Does anyone know if it can read music of a phone connected via USB?

Hi, Can you tell me whether i can play MP3's from CD and USB on this player ?

Well it arrived and all fitted.

Sounds perfectly good enough for the money paid - so happy with it on that side. I think the only downside I've found is that you can't plug in your iPhone via USB. It just doesn't recognise it which is a shame. That said - using the aux port works well enough anyway.

Would highly recommend it if you need a replacement stereo for the money. Simple fitting kit for a Ford Focus cost me £8 so all in for <£50 a reasonable stereo replacement.

Really good for the money imo. Just don't buy the facia adapter from halfords if you need one. They're much cheaper on ebay

Not sure why Ipod is in the title. I thought the model that supports Ipod is the MVH-1400ub

Maybe because of this??
"Front Aux-in (3.5mm Jack plug for MP3 Player)"

got mine and fitted it. How do you turn the thing off! Silly design choice omitting a power button! My previous Pioneer turn off was to hold the volume button.

Original Poster

My guess is you got a manual with it, but maybe you got the only one without instructions.
In the manual I downloaded on your behalf it says

Press and Hold SRC/OFF until the unit turns off

thanks. I've now moved on to 'losing my patience' mode as I cannot get any decent output no matter which settings I change. What settings have you got as no matter what I do there is no noticeable bass. I've found the best track to test the settings to is The XX- Intro, which using my old pioneer DEH 50x4 would make the car shake if turned up loud enough. Whereas with this stereo it won't go past volume 30 without distorting and just sounding like a cheap mess. The system in my car cost around £150 and it sounds great with my previous Pioneer. So I cannot work out why it sounds so shoddy with another Pioneer.

I'm new to Mid and Treble so don't know what values they should have, they seem to make it worse in different ways if I toggle them either side of 0.

I dont have one, have you used the sub preouts? Have you got a sub?

Hi, yes amp & sub and they produced a very good sound on my Pioneer DEH 4x50W model that I've had since 2006. So I was hoping to swap that out for this new one and enjoy the same sound quality with the added USB port it'd be perfect

There's been a further development since I last posted. Yesterday I had a tweak of the settings and got some decent sound out of it. I drove my car today and there was no bass. I could switch the Sub settings to OFF/REV/HIGH and there was no difference; i.e the sub was not working at all. Had a 10 minute journey and the stereo fascia was boiling hot. Took the back out and that too was far too hot.

So I'm not sure if I've got a malfunctioning device but it is not compatible with my system. I've put my old Pioneer in and it works fine, nowt wrong with amp & sub

Will the stereo pick up music from a phone thats plugged in via USB? mainly galaxy s3..?
