Not bad head unit, but wouldn't buy as no DAB as FM will be switching off soon/stations moving to DAB so this will be worthless. (not voting)

DAB switchover put off as take up rates not as expected.
Given that brand new cars still dont all have DAB as standard, i think we're safe for a good while yet.

I paid £100 for this in halfrauds before Xmas. Good value but even after dimming the bright display it's still of putting

This is a great unit with lots of great features, but as per 'big_head_billy's' post the 'tron' like light show was a bit too much for me even after setting the display to lowest dimming level.

DAB is possibly the worst radio broadcasting technology to be invented in the history of radio, they should switch off DAB instead of FM.

forums.theregister.co.uk/for…ab/

"Tim Davie admitted that they had no DAB replacement for RDS-TA, the Travel Announcement system that's already available via FM in virtually 100% of all existing cars. He also refused to provide a figure for geographic DAB coverage that corresponds to the 97% population coverage, rather surprising as the conference was all about cars - and they move around !
Similar, there's nothing lined up to replace TMC, the Traffic Message Channel that's carried by Classic FM. So in the brave new DAB world your shiny new satnav will direct you straight into the back of the queue when Classic FM is switched off, even if you've shelled out £200 per car just so you can keep listening to your favourite stations in fewer places."

I purchased one of these for my car and have to admit Pioneer have packed in a lot to this unit. Main reason for me was Hands free phone and have an Android Samsung S4 and is perfect even the phone book and everything else is displayed on the Pioneer display. USB input flawless. Lighting yes a bit bright but if you play with the custom light settings you can get a nice low ambient light. I have an Amber and white dash instruments and have matched them almost perfectly and no other system came close on this. If you like a Disco light show then that is possible with what they call "MIXTRAX". As an aside Halfords are selling this at £140 on website but saw them at £119 when in one on Thursday. They may have upped the price since then of course.

Oh yes and I am not interested in DAB in the car as it is too flaky and I do find the traffic info useful.

I have never had a problem with flaky DAB(I'm in Yorkshire) since I got a DAB radio four months back. Also, every
DAB car radio I've seen on sale also has an FM tuner that carries TA, and will interrupt the DAB/CD/iPhone/MP3/...
you're listening to, if you set it do so.

The DAB screen antennae don't seem half as good as the "external" magnetic-base ones. The one I have is positioned
horizontally out of the way in the hatchback area of my car and has no problem picking up a strong signal.

It's not that screen antennas are bad, it's that they pick up all of the electromagnetic noise from within the vehicle so the broadcast signal that you're trying to pick up gets partially drowned out. The external (rod) antennas are protected from the cars electromagnetic noise because of the metal body of the vehicle acting as a shield to keep radiated noise inside so the rod antenna has a quieter nose floor. Therefore, it is able to pick up a higher signal to noise ratio (SNR).

*woohoo! Managed to to talk shop finally!*

excellent stereo, lights are a gimmick at first but when you get sick of them just set it to match the rest of the instrument panels and it blends in.
i paid 129 in halfords last summer

Just bought a DAB. Wasted my money to be fair. It dips in and out that often I end up leaving on FM. The whole DAB transmitting system needs a major push IMO it's not yet fit for purpose.

It shouldn't be that bad....

They shouldn't be allowed to sell the cheap antennas/screen mount ones etc.. Get a hardwired one to factory location if you haven't already, I recently switched to DAB and have 99.8% uptime, there appears to be the odd blip here and there when the weathers bad that's it...

I brought from halfords last month. 119 and 30 for fitting. Then they cocked up with the booking so got another 15 off. its a good unit features are great works a treat with Samsung s4 and will stream any media spotify etc. agreed displays bright and looks abit chavvy but I managed to match in with my dash light colours. wud recommend. my only gripe is u have to switch it off manually it doesnt go off with the ignition. not sure if this is the way halfords have wired it tho??

depends on you car. most cases just switching the red and yellow bullet connecters at the rear will solve it.
doesnt work like that on my pug 307 though

Take it out and switch the red and the yellow wires over, Halfords have wired it wrong. It will turn off when you take the key out then.

Must admit its a stick on windscreen antenna. Came with my pioneer. I'll investigate antennas on your advice. Cheers fella.

Anyone know if this'll fit a Fiesta Mk6.5?

It fits my mark 6, I'm guessing yours is facelift. It'll go in with a fascia adapter.

This is a brilliant head unit but as everyone has said, the display is far too bright for night driving

Would it be suitable to replace the current car audio units that has been originally fitted in fiat panda?

need one for a zafira? do these still work with the dashboard display thing as well or is that kind of redundant?
