Very cheap but you need a very basic setup for 2 HDMI inputs to be enough.

I assume it doesnt convert its analog inputs to HDMI out?

Good price regardless.

Just chuck a couple of 3 way switcher units (can pick auto-switching ones up for under £12 a pop now ... or £16 for a 5 way one) into the two inputs and your 2 is now 6. X)

I have 4 HDMI inputs in mine and I still ended up putting a switcher unit in one of them!

It's always the way with these things. Even if you buy the one with most inputs you always seem to run out eventually!

An no .... no video conversion on this one. Wouldn't expect it at this price point!

It's just silly now.

I only have 2 x HDMI inputs, Sky HD and BluRay

But also I have one 3.5mm audio input from my Mac

And also a nintendo Wii which I have the kinda HD plug from the wii, but the one with about 5 wires that currently go to my TV set (red white blue green etc)

My Q, would I be able to plug the wii into this machine to make it SSound ?

And also could I plug the 3.5mm wire from my Mac into this unit?

Thanks in advance, this could be just the right product I am looking for at the correct price !

OH also, can any expert tell me , I currently have 5.1 speakers already with the bare end wires that go into the spring type securings usually, could I just use these existing speakers straight into this unit?

I'm not voting as I don't know anything about this model but under £100 for any Pioneer receiver sounds like an amazing price for anyone on a budget!

Nah!! Dont Waste Your Money!!

For a few bob more you can get this pioneer.

good deal but I stick to my old yamaha system has 7 optical inputs, and really dont bother to send signal via HDMI, don't even know if this would make any difference

lol ^^

Looks like NASA mission control!

lol

"A few more bob" equating to £6399.02 in this case! X)

I'm also impressed that you didn't bother showing the front of the unit, just the massive array of inputs on the back. (_;)

Yes to all, for the Wii you are using Component video leads which this amp supports, the red and white audio ones of the five will provide you with Pro Logic surround sound on this unit.

For the mac, just use a 3.5mm to phono L/R lead and you will be good to go (pick one up for £1 on ebay)

Yes your speakers will plug straight in, though for the front left and right speaker wire you will need to get some banana plugs whic wil be cheap, which attach between the wire and the amp.

Yes. Although you'd probably need a 3.5mm to twin phono cable. (Does the mac not output optical via the 3.5mm jack? My old laptop did. You'd get a better signal through optical and 5.1 where appropriate. The 3.5mm will only ever give you stereo.)

Yes, you can route the Wii through it. Make sure you are using component leads rather than composite or will only get stereo rather than surround sound.

I imagine you could (although probably not the sub) but I doubt they would really do the amp much justice. It depends what the speakers are, but most 5.1 all-in-one system speakers are a lot lower quality than what you would normally hook up to a dedicated AV amp ..... even a budget one like this. I reckon it'd sound pretty horrible and tinny but you could always try it and then just buy some decent speakers when you decide the existing ones sound rubbish.

Don't think you'll need plugs for the fronts? From the image I'm looking at they look like screw down types, wrap the wire round, screw it tight and you're good to go.

Are HDMI switches actually any good? Would solve a problem im having (or rather trying to rule out!) with my TV.

I think when I wall mounted it, the HDMI cable stoved the socket in (bracket was so close I needed right angled ones but didnt know this until hanging it made a rather nasty "crunch"!)

Thanks Rizla! I've ordered 2

Yes no problem, those will be fine.

Decisions decisions. I'm almost on the verge of buying a protek hd satellite receiver and then this thing pops up.
Can anyone recommend a decent speaker package?

I use a 3 way switch unit through one of the HDMI inputs on my amp and it works perfectly. No power supply required and the auto-sensing has always worked perfectly.

If you plan to route 3D through it you probably want to make sure it's v1.4 compliant and HDCP is pretty much a must but I think they all incorporate that now.

The cheapo ones on ebuyer should be fine. (Although I don't know if they're v1.4 ... probably not)

The other thing worth looking into for Wii people is this - neoya.com/sho…mi/ - so your Wii outputs to HDMI. Reviews & feedback on the web were great but I ordered one and it doesn't work. Suspect it's a DOA unit but I never got round to sending it back.

Well optical doesn't do HD sound for a start, need HDMI for that.

But you don't *need* them! They are banana plug/binding post terminals. In other words, just wrap the wire round the post and screw the cover down. Same result.

almost all macs have optical out via the standard 3.5 cable... all you need is a standard toslink cable and an adaptor plug

It is only capable to transmit upto 480p, so better of get this one hotukdeals.com/dea…05/ 480p output but far cheaper.

Bought one of these before Christmas when they were last at this price. It's a decent basic amp, and handles the xbox and htpc just fine. The display is a little poor, but functional. I think the main drawback is the lack of audio processing through HDMI (unless I misunderstood the manual completely and have been wasting my time running multi-channel audio through optical). I think it's just a pass-through.

Yeh that seems to be the general consensus from the previous thread. Im slightly peeved I didn't read it first because I have just bought this amp and my xbox doesnt have an optical output.

Not a problem. You can get an audio dongle that gives you the HDMI for video and an optical out for audio. Works fine.
