Features
The 922 is packed with features not usually seen in amps made for this price point. A seven-channel amp with a claimed 105W of power per channel, it also offers dual subwoofer outputs, giving you extra flexibility for your setup.

Network connectivity is possible via wired ethernet connection or Pioneer’s optional USB wi-fi dongle. Then you’re able to take advantage of internet radio capability, AirPlay compatibility for Apple devices, or DLNA for streaming from any DLNA-supported gadget in your home. It will even stream high-res 24bit/192kHz files should you have any stored on your computer or NAS drive.

As for inputs, you get a generous six HDMI ports and two USB ports – one for the wi-fi dongle, a second for connecting an external iDevice or USB key.

Pioneer VSX-922-K review: Verdict
It’s hard not to keep referring to this Pioneer’s price drop. At its original price point it was being far outclassed by its competitors; but at around £245 right now, this is a seriously impressive package with much to like.

Ordered mine for next day delivery tomorrow.

I have the 920 & love it, hot

Still, even now with all the great tech out there, they only provide one HDMI output! What about people with TVs and projectors??

...lazy cheapskates!

Got my LX-56 yesterday and I absolutely love it, btw about 10 years ago Sonys were good but today ?.
The best budget amps are Onkyo but there soooo ugly. the 616 is only £319 avland.co.uk/aas…asp

If anyone is interested I also looked at:

Yamaha RXV473 at £249 (one only) at Hispek
hispek.com/yam…I-R

Denon 2113 for £279 at Hifigear
hifigear.co.uk/den…tml

The Onkyo's I discarded as there seems to have been some quality issues lately - not sure how true but google showed there to be more debate on the forums for them.

It was on a knife edge for the Denon but i went for the Pioneer as it has more connections and was 15% cheaper

It's a very rare scenario.

HDMI splitters are very cheap anyways.

Remember this is a budget amp! If you have a setup with a TV and Projector you should probably be looking at the higher end of the market!

I bought one of these last week from Richer Sounds at this price to replace my ageing Sony STR-DG820 (still amazing, but I've outgrown it). It's a really great amp, but the menu system is stupid (You have to hold down a button while powering on to enter a secret menu to disable demo mode, for example).

But - the important stuff, great sound, lots of inputs, and some quite nifty features like AirPlay and switchable inputs on Zone 2 thrown in. Plus it has dual LFE pre-outs which on low end receivers is almost unheard of. One thing though - manually configure speaker volumes/distances. After making a lot of noise, it completely ballsed up my setup using the auto-cal mic. It had the left front at half the volume of the right front!

Last year this had an RRP of £500 and didn't sell because it was a £400 amp selling for £500. Now, with Pioneer's adjusted RRP, it's a £400 amp selling for £240 - a bargain!

90p cheaper in Richer sounds, and you can get 5 year supercare for £23.90p. Hot.

I bought one of in Dec 2012 with speaker (Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1 se), but Bass is too high and i need to adjust every time, otherwise my whole house rumble when watching any channel/movie even on medium volume... anyone have same experience or i am missing something (its mine first Pro Home Cinema Sys though

OP, so have you settled on the Pioneer VSX-922 yourself? Any reason why you chose this over the others you were considering? I am also in the market for a new receiver.

I looked at this model, was a tie up between this and the Denon AVR2113. I ended up with the Denon, very similar spec but the Denon edged it for me. Found the Pioneer a pain to setup and didn't like the menu system.

Purchased the Denon from Richersounds for 279. Both have an Android app available. Remember these are mid-range models so don't expect multiple HDMI outputs etc!

do these need to be on to pass HDMI signals to TV?
can I select networked music and internet radio just using remote once setup?

holy cow, just seen the costs for the WiFi adaptor and how big is it!? thought they'd be generic USB dongle

Just buy a cheap wireless bridge if you need wifi.

Rip off, got an old Sony cassette deck with phone output straight into some jbl Pc speakers. Much cheaper.

I spent far too long digesting lists of specs.

Initially I wanted a Marantz to match my amp and CD but the decent AV amps are big bucks so narrowed it down to the Denon 2113 (£279) (or 1713 for £209), this Pioneer or the Yamaha 473. This edged it for me because of the extra connects, £40 cheaper than the 2113 and the possibility for pre-amp.

Mainly though I spent too long looking and at some point you just got to jump...

It'll sure be better than my 10 year old Yamaha DVX S100 (I hope)

[quote=roymunsen]What a rip off, I got a Pioneer 5.1 system with all the speakers and a built in dvd player for less than £200.

Yes, I had a Yamaha unit similar and am now upgrading to a separate system.

I also have a kettle and tin of nescafe but I only use it in emergencies when the Barista machine is being serviced...

haha, was thinking more in power terms

There is mention that this unit has a new HDMI Standby Through mode that allows high definition audio and video to pass through the receivers while in the Standby mode.

Anyone who has this, do you know if it also passes through hd audio and video when it is on? or just standby?

I hate hukd at times, now £239 lighter and in need of some decent speakers.

Damn you op - but thanks lol

Several stores at this price. Or £242 from Tesco plus clubcard points and Quidco. Great deal no matter where you buy. Hot from me.

If you find any, let me know. Been checking out the Tannoy SFX 5.1 for £199 at richersounds. I believe they were reduced to £99 at one point though

I have the tannoys and can reccomend them. I paid £199 for them.

Would be rather Tempted to buy this to replace my Denon AVR-1911, but since im saving for a mortgage deposit atm - its out of reach sadly

Seems this avr doesn't pass through audio or video whilst on, which is a big problem for me, so therefore appears to be useless for my needs.

Shame

Why is that an issue? (I can understand if it didnt when it was on!) I can only think its because you might be using it to feed different rooms? Can't think of any thing else!

Yeah, you're correct, i have a splitter with 4 x Simultaneous HDMI out, and it feeds other rooms with audio and video

My onkyo 608 passes audio/video when on or off, i wanted to upgrade to an internet/dlna enabled unit.

Every amp has quirks - I've been using mine for a week with no issues, and I have quite a complex setup (6 HDMI devices, 3 non-HDMI inputs, and two separate zones).

Buy a separate dedicated media player. Always the best idea, no matter how much you spend on the amp.
