Ordered, nice find mate. Heated

homebase are the same company and have had these at this price for ages if anyone has one near them and and not argos, they are really bright when they come on and i'm really happy with the one i have, i would defo recommend.

I've never had one of these, do you have to like drill a hole in the wall and feed a wire through to a socket inside the house?

yes

csiman

yes

It depends what you mean by 'socket'. It should have its own fused supply.

What about the 400W version for an extra £1... now that's bright!

Ghetto! The tubes for these will be banned soon, so stock up!

B&Q do a 400W one for under £8 - its part of their value range, but looks that same as this one.

Hmm.. I have one of these which was damaged in a recent storm. Rather than pulling my old cable through the wall to replace it is there a way to re-wire this to my old cable?

yes.

Scaremongering , plenty of stock available in alternative energy saver versions of the same lamp which has been banned since 2009 in it's previous non energy efficient form ..

pay a £1 extra for the 400 watt better light

These are good value lights but personally i went for carriage style lanterns. Not as much light, which neighbours etc will appreciate and not so blinding when you need walk back to the house. Carriage lanterns are the same price too from B&Q with PIR. Not to sound up myself but they look nicer too, but horses for courses. Heat added for the spot.

I said stock up, not there is no stock. they are banned in 2013.

I can't stand any outdoor lighting with pir ....there is one mounted on a house opposite me that must have a 1kw lamp 'cos the effin' thing is on and off all night/morning and is SO bright my whole bedroom lights up! Ferked if I know what sets it off but it sure as heck isn't visitors, I know!

They should be banned ....either that or my lazer sights should get a free upgrade so I can take it out. I am adding heat 'cos I am hoping you will all bypass the PIR and it is cheap.

Cats set them off all the time and if you have set them to stay on a while they really eat up the electricity.

Burglars love them - they provide so much convenient light to help them break in.

if it's that invasive a light report it..
they should adjust it not to light up your house, it's light pollution.

Any idea who to report it to? My idiot neighbour has one mounted on the side of his house under a bedroom window (!) and right under his central heating boiler vent. On off on off on off on off on off lighting up the whole back of my house - dining room, kitchen, back bedroom. Goddam things should be banned - or ban idiots from fitting them instead.

+2 - see my post above. Damn things are a menace when fitted by idiots or thoughtless people.

I bought a 500w one from Homebase last night for £8.

It's pollution, so local law, council should deal with it, get them some video of it to get to the grist of the matter.
