Polite "no, thank you" and you walking out...
Most places will have a speculative chance of the up sell. It depends on how you as a person respond to it. As Pavel76 has said, you can always say "No Thank You". If they continue...take your business elsewhere.
I know I've asked before... But please can you source some amazing prices for 215/55/16 tyres? Preferably before April when my MOT is due!
Truly awful tyres. These things shouldn't be allowed. There are much cheaper budget tyres out there that are better than these. Avon, khumo, hankook and falken are all probably cheaper and definitely better than these.

I booked my car in with F1 to have tyres fitted. We agreed a decent price and confirmed they had the tyres I wanted in stock, then before I was due to take my car in they phoned to say sorry they didn't actually have those tyres but they did have some others - a brand which I most certainly did not want and at a price that certainly was not decent. I told them to stuff it and they lost any chance of me ever being their customer in future.

On Pirelli P7 Cinturatos, well I have them on my current car and I can't wait until they wear out enough to justify changing them for Uniroyal Rainsport 3s like I had on my previous car. I've only had Pirellis twice. P6s a few years back that scared the hell out of me, and P7s that came on my latest car when I got it. They are not as bad as the P6s but I don't feel at all confident on them - particularly when it's cold and slightly damp. People seem to like Pirellis but I certainly do not.
what would be good for 235/45/18 for a Ford SMAX ?

want to ensure they are good but good price.

would winter tyres be better then summer ones?

Totally agree with yourself on the P7's I was the same though on 225/45/R18's factory fitted. Cold,Damp terrible, Live in N.Ireland so that is basically all the time! Also would say never put these on anything powerful either even pretty much before the wear indicator I changed as they really did feel actually dangerous. 7k was all I got out of them on mainly B-Class driving.

Is that from experience, not had anything urgent but did offer to check alignment which I declined but did take up on different car because steering was slightly off already. To my recollection that was the only thing they offered when I changed 4 sets of tyres and not every occasion if that but then using their repair service could be a different story which I have never used..

Not my experience from having an MOT done at the Newark one a few weeks ago

As a general rule, employees are bad, not businesses. You get good and bad Kwik-Fits, you get good and bad local independents, and I'm sure you get good and bad F1 Autocentres

Rumour has it there's probably a half decent Halfords somewhere as well. Sounds a bit far fetched tbh, but who knows...

I'm not sure he wants to go that cheap E/C/73!
If he is going real cheap the pick of the bunch is SV308's by Goodride.
But I'd probably go with Nexen N'Blue HDPlus.

Can vouch for them. Have them (exact size) on front of the car. Nice and quiet and very progressive turn in (unlike the rainsport 3 on the front of bros car)
as opposed to partially fitted ?
Terrible company. Used them for 4 new tyres and asked them to sort the tracking as the steering wheel was out of line and car came out with steering wheel even MORE out of line. Reluctantly left as had already paid before realising but wouldn't recommend this company

Uniroyal rain sport 3's . They due ware out quicker than other tyres but are great tyres. Winters are only good in low temps so avoid unless you are prepared to change tyres to summer later.

Ummm. Not sure what to make of your rather insulting tone, you seem to assume that I'm somehow too stupid to have worked that out for myself? I have looked and looked for cheap tyres for the 2 cars that I've had with this size tyres and found nothing decent - hence my request that if someone else spots any, sharing would be appreciated.

That's a bit out of order. That's the whole point of this site. You don't want to help out...don't!!
I've got these on my Audi A3 and really like them. 20k miles in and front set are down to 4mm. Each to their own but I'll be getting the same again next time round
I've found Costco to be perfectly reasonable with tyres. Had a similar Michelin tyre fitted for £58.
Hot, will check locally........
I am bit confused as my previous VW Touran had same size tyres but on new one they are 93V instead of 91V. I have two tyres in my garage bought for old car and don't know if they will be ok or I should get 93V. The car has mostly me or another two passengers normally.I would appreciate if someone can advise.

Thats not the company, thats the employees then.
F1 have never sold me anything i don't need. Simon and the team at swindon store have been nothing but professional and courteous and always price match any local tyre company.
wouldn't go anywhere else !
Can't speak for other branches, but the one in swindon is excellent.

The 90 Number is the Load index, how much weight the tyre walls can take under full load. (Basically a full car with luggage)
you can put either 91 or the 93 on but i would always go with the larger number because its a heavy car

I had a VW Touran and always got a michelin 94V or XL (extra load)
If you have all 7 seats up and 7 people in the car with bags, you want a decent tyre with a strong tyre wall
otherwise cornering will feel very "Jelly / Boaty like" getting a higher index than a 91 stops this on Tourans
despite what any garage says, they will always try to sell a lower load index because they are cheaper.

hope that helps

I would love to know who bought these tyres as most cars are now at least 93 rating
as cars get heavier. Good deal for small cars but no good for my avensis.
be careful with f1, you'll book in and they will tell you they need to order in the tyres and give you "equivalents"

Thanks for the information. I had previous Touran for 4 years and it came with 91 V rated and I replaced two front with same and never felt anything wrong with grip or handling, may be due to being empty most of time.I think I will go for high load tyres this time as manufacturers have put on 94 V this time.

Most defiantly would of been down to the car being empty, you will feel a huge difference with a stiffer tyre wall (94)
even with nobody but you in it,The ride feels more solid and corners feel more controlled.

As someone said on here, Costco sell tyres and they're a michelin specialist, and they're normally pretty cheap.

Check your owners manual, the correct tyre specifications will be in there, or call VW. Don't trust me or any other bod on an internet forum to be right And don't trust the tyre fitters either I've had cars where their big look up book was wrong and they were trying to sell me incorrect tyres.

Is that when you order off the net and have them fitted locally or are you talking about phoning up. Obviously like any garage they will not carry every kind of tyre and try to flog you anything they have instore.
Keep a look out on Amazon too. They are doing Michelin Pilot 205 55 16 91W for my A4 for around the £50. Just need to add on £10 for a local garage to fit.

Yes, winter tyres are likely to offer a safer drive during winter (below 7C,which is half the year in Scotland). Many will tell you winter tyres are not required though I'll wager most of those people wear a seat belt.
What is everyone doing with their cars? are you racing them?

If not just buy budget tyres.........

They are the only thing that keep you on the road.

Just youtube tyre brake tests and you will see.

I think sticking to the speed limits not txting not tailgating all help not contributing to the many accidents on UK roads....
