My trade in for a 6a (with a Google Pixel 3a) was rejected for no valid reason by the company who deal with the trade-ins. The said the case was cracked, when it wasn't. It was also returned (to me) without the sim-tray. I complained to Google, who said (para-phrasing) "nothing to do with us, we don't care".

So yeah. Sad, because I'll now never buy another Google product again. Check out the reviews of the company that does the trade-ins and you'll see it's not just me. Company are "PCS Wireless".

Obviously YMMV, but "buyer beware" is all I'll say. (edited)

I've traded 4 devices with PCS now, only 1 time did I get a reduced valuation for a Pixel 3a, reduced by £15 for screen burn (I didn't check it very carefully so maybe it was valid).

If you're worried then buy the phone from Google and don't open it while you wait for the outcome of the trade in, if they don't honour the trade in then return the phone to Google for a refund.

The trade in values are good, I think I will return the John Lewis order of pixel 6a. Box opened but should be OK with John Lewis. Thanks op

Bare in mind what happens to that Pixel and to the emissions used to deliver and then to return. If you hadn't seen this deal you wouldn't be returning anything. As much as you can get deals on here, constantly seeing cheaper options promotes consumerism and is very wasteful.

Thanks OP, managed to get a trade-in price £185 for iPhone 6S which is great so the Pixel 6A is roughly around £110

Anyone with experience of Google / PCS Wireless trade-ins? Estimated value seems way over-egged £165 for an original iPhone SE 16gb !?! Facebook/eBay that's worth about £50

I've used this Google trade-in offer 3 times in the last few months, 2 iphone 6 (£135 each) and a iphone 8 (£185) and all worked out smoothly. The iphone 8 arrived at their end later than the deadlines due to the Royal Mail strikes but luckily this didn't interfere with anything in the end.

There's a 15 day return period for the pixel, so hope the inspection is done by then, but have a few questions for those with experience:

Does the trade in kit come with the pixel?
How long does delivery and inspection take for trade in?

Hoping to still have the chance to return the pixel in case the trade in is rejected. (edited)
    eacesar's avatar
    eacesar
The trade-in kit comes separately, and arrives a few days AFTER the pixel has been delivered.
The trade in kit comes with a Royal Mail pre-paid 48h tracked delivery sticker. Once your old phone is received by them, it takes less than a week for them to inspect and process the trade-in.

I've used this offer 3 times in the last few months without issues. Last time, they received my old phone past the deadline due to the Royal Mail strikes and I was concerned it was going to be rejected or receive a lower price but no, it was paid in full.

Alert for those who haven't yet bought: the mad trade-in prices may have been reduced. I bought on Thursday with an offer of £175. Now same model trade-in only offering £135. Same when I tried when logged out, so not reduced because it's your second deal. 49197153-NhECx.jpg

I traded in a pixel 3a and was honest about the cracked screen. It was then rejected due to a "cracked case", and the case was perfect. I emailed photos to Google, but they didn't care and said "Sorry, not our company, we won't deal with this". So yeah ... I'd say don't buy based on the trade-in, because if it's rejected Google won't care.

For anyone with the £70 off £350 spend at Google Store offer from Amex - could combine this pixel 6a deal and add the buds a-series to take total over £350 so effectively making the buds free.
Not sure if the cashback from Amex would be impacted by the trade in refund though.
    Had anyone tried?
    the.porter's avatar

The £100 of £400 Amex was received within 2 days so trade in makes no difference

Some help needed. I am interested in offer and almost went for but it but then stopped. I recently got a good condition Pixel 5 (lying in drawer and not used yet and outside return date)... I have got some old phones to trade Iphone SE/ Iphone 7 etc - good condition apart from battery. 6a appears like a basic phone. I have a phone from work (Iphone 13) so this is personal one.
    Doubts

    1) I am surprised by 6a camera (12MP) compared to for e.g. Moto G9 power (64MB budget phone I am using as second phone), and iphone 7(6 years old yet still sporting 12 MP) I am using. Am I missing something on camera - I want the phone to shoot good pictures

    2) pixel 5 and 6a are not expandable on memory just like iphone. Also seems 6a doesnt even have dual sim option! So are we going up in world with 6a or down! Apart from larger screen - I dont see any features on this budget phone

    3) I will be able get a significantly higher trade value for SE/IP7, yet - I will also need to shell out north of £100+ assuming trade in works.

Would appreciate some advise... trying to avoid HUKD collect bug for a change :-)

The Pixel 5 and 6a use the same camera - Google have used the same sensor for all models for years until v. recently. Don't get too attached to the MP figures - a lot is done in the software - and they are judged to take some of the best pictures.

Are the phones bought at Google Store are "pre registered" to the google account? I might remember incorrectly, as my last phone from Google was Nexus 5, but as far i remember (or not) after powering new phone in was already signed in. Any thoughts please?

One for those who have done this......

Do I need to provide IMEI at point of sale?

I want to buy an old iPhone form eBay to trade in.

Any help would be really appreciated. My daughter desperately needs to buy a new phone and trying to get her the best I can for her relatively low budget.

I had no problems when I traded in an old Moto G6 for at the 6a at launch a few months back, even when it was giving tampered bootloader warnings when booting up. Got the quoted trade in value, £70 odd quid.

I think it's a case of those with problems being louder than those without problems.

Well it was always luck of the draw I suppose with PCS, based on the online horror story reviews, but I've just received a full rejection. Sent iPhone 8 in full working order but with screen and case cracked, which I declared before getting the estimate. I am messaging Google, am not happy.

Anyone know which delivery service they use to send in your trade in. Their T&Cs state phone has to arrive with them within 14 days but with royal mail on strike the post is currently in disarray. Thanks.. (edited)

I returned a phone to them recently using the pre-paid royal mail box they sent, the phone took 15 days to arrive after I sent it 10 days after the delivery of the pixel 6a. That made it 11 days late but they still paid the full amount out as quoted.

Ok…so just decided to have a little look into the trade in scheme company as quite honestly it does seem a bit too good to be true…
I’ve now cancelled 2 orders!! They seem
    dodgy AF!!!
hundreds of reviews across the internet of dishonest practice and phones being valued at £0, but out of the time scale for the return of the new item! Many have never received their old phone back!

Here are the ones just with google!

Seems to be hot and miss from previous comments on here. I think it is worth a gamble, you won't get a deal this cheap for a Pixel 6a even on eBay. If you have an old iPhone to trade in I would say it is a hot deal.

I'd assume so (this is the upgrade I'm proposing for my dad), all the bloatware and ads frustrate me when I use his phone so even for this reason alone should make for a less clunky experience.
He doesn't take many photos but should see a benefit and being a tradesman and likely to get wet / dusty, the better IP rating should see him right.

No doubt he'll moan the screens too small and he doesn't like the ringtone but as long as he can get football scores on, he'll learn to live with it...

Just got my returned trade in phone back from PCS in worse condition than I sent it (I had a feeling this would happen so taken photos of it before I sent it) .

Covered in stickers, glue residue and to top it off they have set an touch ID passcode on it so it can't be reset. Bunch of jokers.

Sent my pixel 6a back today. Just for those in the same position, do ensure you give it enough days to return as the item goes back to Poland.

To be on the safe side, contact Google Store CS via chat and initiate a return (you only have 15 days to request a return)!
If your trade-in gets accepted: just keep the phone
If your trade-in doesn't get accepted: return the phone - you already have the approved return!
