Maybe it traps the heat and moves it around the baking pizza?

Unless you're in Scotland, where we like ours fried.

Exactly, buy a pizza stone (approx £10) pop it on your BBQ and close the lid, voila!!
I bought this exact one for 40 quid at Morrisons 'cause I'm an impulse buyer. My eldest daughter doesn't eat bbq food so it's a great way to do meat and also a margarita at the same time. I wish I'd researched and bought a pizza stone for the bbq but for 25 quid I'd say this is a good deal.

My mam thinks this is a great deal cause she always ends up with all the crap I buy on hukd and they're all free to her!

But I guess with that method then a lot of heat escapes when you lift the lid to put the pizza in. With this bit of kit maybe the metal surround retains a lot of heat to cook the top of the pizza. That's the theory anyway, no idea if it's effective or not.

Never really had the problem as it's a gas BBQ, you're probably right with a charcoal BBQ
