Can I use this outside of London?

Many towns have a London Road. The bike is named after London Road in Sheffield.

This or the Triban RC500 ?

What’s the specs on the Triban? What are you going to use the bike for?

Will be my commuter in the winter

Triban has Sora V Apex
9 speed V 11
Promax v BB5

Think the PX bike is better
But the big issue is Planet X don’t do Cyclescheme anymore so RC500 is my only option
Does anyone have this bike? I want to buy it mainly for commuting (9miles) from my house to my office in central london. The bike is heavy, I wonder if I would struggle.

I bought a more expensive version of this last month. I've put 300km or so Great bike, fast and such a smooth ride compared to my old road bike especially on poor road surfaces. I paid £850 and the main difference is this one has mechanical disc brakes where as mine are hydraulic. Incredible value for money on this bike.

I don't have the bike, but for a 9 mile commute I would not worry at all about the weight of this bike. For commuting it is a good bike, plenty of space for racks, proper mud guards, and wider tyres if any of your commute is off road (like a non tarmac tow path).

I've had mine off road a fair bit, the tyres it came with are fantastic. Fast on the tarmac but still grip on dirt/gravel/grass.
Incredible deal. BB7 upgrade is worth considering, but for that money that's a simple and fun commuter or whatever you fancy.

I have those wheels and they are super cheap, and cheerful. The nipples rust fairly quickly and you need to watch for loose spokes for the first few hundred miles.

That all said, if everything else I owned wasn't 10 speed, that would be on the way without any upgrade.

Ha ha, I literally spent 15 minutes this morning tightening up my rear spokes

Had mine for a couple of years and done >2k miles on it. The wheels are the heavy bit, so if you struggle you could upgrade them, but it would no longer be such a cheap bike. I’ve used mine as a winter bike, for a bit of CX and now it’s on my turbo trainer.

Is it worth just buying BB7 separate as similar costs then you have BB5s as spares?
Great price

The look like they might be a really easy swap, but I don't have any experience doing that.

The BB7s have a larger pad making contact, and they just work better, but I am a heavy chap, with a bit of downhill here and there. BB5s are perfectly safe though, for someone a bit lighter hitting the roads and canal paths if you see what I mean.

Personally, I'd run them ragged, and look at upgrading later. You might see a set of HyRds or some hydraulic brakes in the interim if you keep your eyes peeled. You wouldn't use them as a backup I suspect...
Great bike. I Rode an organised lands end to John ogroats ride last year with professional chaperones. One chaperone was on the previous version of this bike. He was very fast and very comfortable over the 980 miles. I kept asking him! He said over nearly 1000 miles he was far more comfortable on the London road than his 3k road bike.

Great price for the new version. Buy buy buy.

If you wondering about the tridan 500, remember that decathlon do great returns if there's an issue. Plane x are a little harder to deal with if you're not local.
Spotted this and would buy if didn't already have a gravel bike . I'd probably take the 32mm tyre upgrade (or do so myself if a enjoyed annoying jobs ) , definately never going back to 23-25mm for commuting on the shrapnel Next bike will be a 1x or hub gear also as sick of fiddling with gears .

That’s a hard one! The new btwin looks much nicer too me. Also depends if you like 1x at the front. The new sora in the triban looks like old 105 so can’t be wrong with that really.
I am about to buy this bike but I am 188cm, so in between L and XL - anyone have any experience with what would be best to go with? Struggling to decide.

Out of curiosity was it the same SRAM Apex 1 he used too - I am interested to know how people are using it as a road bike on organised trips like you mentioned?
