Just purchased this - Very impressed with price as its really big.
I know there was a previous deal during the week for a USB Plasma Ball at Tesco for £5 but this is much larger and is mains powered.

It also has an audio feature so the lights react to the sound/music of the surroundings.

Plasma Ball - 8 Inch - £9.99 at Maplin. Free Del this weekend or free collection. Check stock online.

Like something from Doctor Frankenstein’s laboratory!
Glowing strands of lightning
Direct the lightning by passing your hands over the glass globe!
200mm (8-inch) diameter
Supplied with plug in mains adaptor

This fascinating lighting effect that puts the power of lightning at your fingertips will have you cackling like a mad scientist in no time!

When plugged into the included mains power supply this 8 inch glass ball produces streaks of lightning that react to your touch. Just move your fingers along the outside of the glass and watch as the lightning follows your movements.

With its sphere style design the plasma ball allows you to view the light effect generated from virtually any angle. As fun to play with as it is to look at this plasma ball brightens up your home, office or even sinister laboratory and makes a great gift for both little and big kids alike.

Thanks for posting was not too sure about the Tesco one looked a bit small but have ordered this one.

good price but after 10 mins it will be unsused, its just a novelty which wear off very very quickly.

Like a lot of Christmas presents no doubt, but I will order and give a little heat

on xmas day also give your son a 2p coin, tell him to lay this on the plasma ball and touch it!

I was having a very random conversation with my neighbour this afternoon - talking about fibre optic lights and "those balls that the lights chase your hands" and low-and-behold, I come home to find them listed on HUKD - Amazing!
Ordered 1, but it will be a Jan birthday - already got Christmas in!
Thankyou so much x

Yes it does atually react to music and any sound within the environment. - We tested this before we put it away for Xmas.

The Tesco ones are a lot smaller and remember they are USB Powered... So you've to stay pretty near your PC desk.. or move your laptop round with you.

We opened this to test before we put away and its fantastic, in the dark it looks amazing. Its really big and it does react to music/sound when switched to the audio setting.

+1 exactly. There is NO NEED what so ever to have the Tesco one plugged into a computer. I used my phone charger and it works fine.
So why do Maplins state that it does NOT react to Music, that it only reacts to 'Sound'?

Thanks
Just ordered 1 for £9.16 adding something for 17p and using the code: secret1
I'll only get 2.5 instead of 8% cashback but works out cheaper

Because Maplin uses paid monkeys to answer their technical questions, who would much rather reply "computer says no" than risk possible trouble from someone complaining that they'd made promises they couldn't deliver. Isn't it obvious from the stock answer "No sorry this product does not support that."? Not to mention the fact that music is, actually, sound.

lol fair enough.

Bought one lunchtime, was much bigger than I'd expected, the box is huge. I remember seeing these years ago on Tomorrow's World when they were £1,000s to buy, have wanted one ever since.

Thats just what my hubbie said

Anyone know about the workings of these. I bought mine for my 18mth old son 2 use under supervision as he has additional needs and we use sensory toys/ items a lot with him. He was touching it and touched me and I got an electric shock and a tiny blister (looked like a small yellowheaded spot) on my hand. This has worried me???
I know it says not for under 3s but most toys do even the 1s his physio uses.
I'm a bit reluctant to let him play with it again even though he wasn't effected by the shock.
Was just wondering if anyone can help explain this.
Thanks peeps.

On the instructions it does say that when moving your fingers and hands over the plasma ball you may hear a tiny buzzing but its just the vibrations ... i've not heard of people actually getting a shock and a blister.
