Play Sega Master System, SNES, NES and Gameboy games in your browser for free!

Having seen the success of the Spectrum post, I thought I'd add this to the site. There are four sites (legal) that are part of a collective which allow you to play loads of classic games for these four different consoles right in your browser.

Here are the links:

Master System
classicsegaonline.com/ind…tml

SNES
virtualsupernes.com/

NES
virtualnes.com/

Gameboy
virtualgbx.com/

These sites allow you to play games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Allstars, OutRun, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Shinobi, Ristar, R-Type and Master of Darkness to name but a few. Just go on any of the above links and click a letter at the top of the page to see the games.

Hope that this helps some people. Enjoy!

DISCLAIMER: I cannot be held responsible for all the hours lost at work playing these games.

From that site "The game cartridges available on our websites have been out of the retail market for a minimum of 10 years.".

Well that's a lie... most of these games have been re-released on other formats e.g. PSN, Android etc.

I see Gamegear & SMS but no Megadrive?

hot thanks

Always makes me laugh. There is NOTHING that states that you can rip off someone's IP if it has not been available commercially for 10 years or more. The copyright still lives with SEGA / Nintendo unless they have otherwise released the game into the wild for free themselves.

ooh I have a master system and mega drive ... good times and harder to damage

Cold. Illegal.

Hot hot hot .. hot

wind yer necks in.

Now this is what I run 3x780tis in SLI for. Yeah baby I wanna see Echo the dolphin in pure 16 bit awesomeness. Just hope 64gb RAM is enough.

I wasn't allowed a console I had an Amiga 600 (which was a million times better than the £50 a game crap consoles!

ta v much

I remember dreaming of owning every single mega drive game ever. now its the same dream different console. im glad i dont buy games like i used to. i remember paying £60 for super street fighter. never again

Strange what passes for a deal on here. This is quite simply illegal and should not really be publicised.

I'm not saying don't do it - each to their own, and quite frankly, I enjoy these old games... However, this should not be a deal, and should not be publicised.

nintendo.com/cor…jsp explains the legality sufficiently.

Regardless of that for this to work they'd be using emulators that infringe the copyright of the consoles themselves.

Thats US law, if you read the relevant laws in regards to ROM's they should be ones which you've created yourself (or at-least own a physically copy of the game) for which ever console you are emulating.
The UK law is even more intense, you can't actuality make a ROM (even for backup purposes) without the copyright owners permission
In short yes this is illegal in most countries including the UK.

On a side note I can't remember seeing a single court case for someone downloading and using a ROM for one of these aged consoles.

Emulators themselves aren't illegal, only ones that are illegal are if they include copyrighted software that was built in to the system originally.

Well it's been there for years and Nintendo, other companies didn't bother doing anything, it's not like people can buy those games brand new from the shops anymore to support the devs

You can pay to download old NES and SNES games to play on a Wii; for example.

Actually you can.

Most of these games sell on console virtual stores, in compilation packs or even on Steam!

The site might be, but playing the game isn't.
