On which planet is paying 23 quid for a massively unfinished game a deal?

Think of it as a preorder of the final game, but instead of having to wait till it's done, you get to see it's progress.

Seems to be that price everywhere that I've checked....

Will this turn into the full release version or do you have to buy it again?

If it helps anyone, currently showing as 22.85 at ShopTo, lower than the RRP.

The 'game preview' status is presumably due to the game still being a work in progress even on PC.

For those asking, I've bought 'game preview' titles before and the preview version does indeed upgrade to the full edition free of charge. The games are generally cheaper at preview than they are on the later full release also.

If you like hunger games type game (dropped off in the middle of nowhere with nothing and racing others to get better gear and kill them) then yes this is an amazing game.

How do you know this is a code and not a physical copy?
I bought it on Amazon and expected to be able to access the code straight away, as is usually the case.
However, the invoice just said that it would be "delivered" on release day.

In an interview with ign playerunknown said there will be a physical copy when the full game launches, I wouldn't expect a physical copy for this pre-release version.

Like combat_honey as said above, the game on Xbox One is in 'preview phase' when it comes out, so you get early access by way of a code. I was reading the latest Eurogamer article regarding it and the makers have advised the PC and Xbox versions are at different points of development, so we might be a bit behind on maps etc for a bit (obviously the PC version has been out for quite a while already). Essentially we get the base game with third person and no desert map. When the updates then release for the Xbox i.e first person/new maps, you should in essence get the full game without spending any further money. Hope this helps, Google and Eurogamer should have more info to help you make a decision. As long as the frying pan is in the preview, they can take my money...

Physical copy will be released at some point but for now it’s just a game preview. The current release date for the game preview is 12th December. So I would expect code delivery around then

It's an early bird pricing, once the game is out of the game preview mode, it'll be jacked up in price much like Ark was to £40-45.

Think of it like paying for a game which you get unlimited access to a beta, which is being fixed till the release date of the game, you're still gonna get the full game at the end of the beta, but instead of waiting not being able to play, you can actually access the game playing it till release date point.

TL;DR Think of it like being able to pre-order for a game, would you rather not being able to play the game at all, or would you rather be able to play it in a beta-like stage, also you're getting it cheaper if you pre-order before X date.

Depends on perspective. I value games by the time I played compared to how much they cost.
I personally say I've got my moneys worth if I get an hour gameplay for every £1 I spend.

I bought pubg on pc for £22, and I've played around 600 hours. And I reckon I will easily treble that by end of next year. Money well spent.i will buy again on Xbox to play with friends who can't afford decent pc's.

I also game share with my kid, so he will also get to play it.

Reckon it's well worth £23.

On top of that, the game will eventually be "finished". Yet I will have played for hundreds of hours by that point. And will gladly play new maps free of charge, because I bought the game for £23

Supposedly the PC version will reach 1.0 in December so it won't technically be "Early Access" any more. However I expect they will be continuing fixing it up for a long time. If you've palyed the game you'll know it's nowhere near a finished product. I suspect Microsoft wouldn't allow it to be sold as a finished game on Xbox in its current state anyway.

I agree.

Going by by his logic, paying £40 for “completed” Infinite Warfare last year was a good deal.

And and we all know how that turned out ...

Is this Physical With Code or What? Skipped Pc release so might Buy

Honestly I don't want to see it go over £30 the game is still buggy as heck on pc and it's been out a long time

Look at fortnite killing it with f2p

So making it £30 when player unknown comes out imo may kill it and people will just keep playing a f2p game while they continue to update every week or so

Digital

To be taken with a pinch of salt, but the PUBG team have said REPEATEDLY over and over and over and over etc. that the price will remain at £26.99 even after it comes out of early access (on Steam anyway).

A planet where you get the finished game once it's done for no extra charge?
Edited by: "combat_honey" 1st Nov

Buying preview games pays off later down the line when the RRP shoots up. I got we happy few for £14 and haven't touched it yet as I'm waiting till the finished game. When this comes out next year it will probably be £40 so miles better to get it now for less.

The PC version is still a mess. I'd wait to see if this is stable or not first.

You're planning on putting in 1200 hours on this game in a little over a year? That's 3 hours a day on this alone. Is this the standard these days for adults?
