Playstation 3+R:FOM+Motorstorm+SIXAXIS = [£589.00]
20% off your first order = [£117.80]
Cashback through the site (10% after initial £150) = [32.12]

TOTAL = £589.00 - £117.80 - £32.12 = 439.08

Quidco tracked at 6% = [£35.34]
After Quidco = £403.74

That works out possibly cheaper than RRP, with 2 of the better games at launch and extra controller.

2 more pointers that may be helpful to some.

- You can actually spread the payment over 40 weeks interest free, which can work out at £10 a week

- If you want to, you can sell both games on ebay (£60 approx after fees) and the SIXAXIS (£25 approx after fees), and get the unit price down to almost £300.

Probably because no one wants to pay over the top for a console, its still way overpriced compared to the XBox 360...nearly £450 quid forgedaboutit....:x

Additionally, wasn't is said somewhere that the 20% off first orders excluded electrcial goods? It has happened in the past where people have ordered, received the goods, then had to pay full price for them?

I cannot see the original combination deal for £589 - all I can see is the same bundle for £719.00
Am I missing something?

don't think so if you compare againg top specification xbox 360:
Premium £270 HD-DVD £130 1 Year Xbox Live £40 = £440 which is the same price of a retail PS3

I ordered this last week and got the 20% new customer discount with no problems. The only thing you should watch out for is that their credit department is likely to cancel your order initially becuase the your asking for too much credit as a new customer (I think they only allow a certain limit for new customers). You'll need to chase them a couple of days after placing the order whereupon you'll need to pay a £50 deposit to proceed with the order (it's taken off the balance).

The deal was posted on the AVforums website last week and quite few people on there ordered it as a result - I think GU have realised they were selling quite a few of these for some reason and have now bumped the price up from 589 to 719. All is not lost however, they haven't changed the price of their 'console plus 1 game' packages - they are still at £519. After discounts and quidco you can still get the package for £353. Still very cheap (relatively speaking) compared to everywhere else.

Well said where is the need to pay so much for a console.

Patience is the best discount voucher here. Wait and you will get a 40% discount in around 6 months or so as these gather dust in warehouses.

Until then I'll stick to my 360.

Hey quick question,

Do you just pick the option you want, register for an account, and they automatically apply the 20% first order discount?

Yep, think of the 360 as being essentially the same as a PS3, except M$ let you pay in installments, console, headset, hard drive, xbox live, battery play and charge kit, wireless adaptor, HD DVD drive...etc

Both are good consoles, but the pricing argument against the PS3 doesnt really work when you factor in the extras youd buy with the 360 IMHO.

I ordered mine last week (package as above) for £471.20 after the 20% discount.

Quidco has tracked at £35.34. The cash back is £37.12 (I paid the full amount on my credit card) making the total price... £398.74.

Happy Days.

I placed the order but it tells me total is stil £579 on checkout, even though it said "20% off your first order" anyone know whats wrong?

The 20% is taken off when you receive your first statement.

excellent
thanks so much!

panic...over.

The PS3 is simply a Blu-ray player that also plays some games and costs over £400. Sony have just used the "Playstation" brand to try and push their version of the 2 new movie formats into peoples homes.

They have probably never got over losing the VHS/Betamax battle and will sacrifice the brandname to try and beat HD DVD (all to the expense of gamers - a £425 games console, no layout for exclusive titles, PS2 chips removed).

If Sony had released a DVD version for £279.99 I would have bought one, but as it stands I'll wait for a £100 price drop.

I just want to play great games, for a decent price and right now that means the Xbox360 and Wii.

I'm only seeing the bundle in question for £719. I must be going crazy, can somebody point me to the exact bundle?

EDIT: Nevermind, I went and read earlier in the topic and problem solved.

I think the difference is that the 360 gives you the option of not buying what you dont want.

Thats true I spose, I just think Microsoft are more clever than Sony when it comes to marketing. If most people add up what they've spent on their 360 theyll probably find theyve spent as much as a playstation. But when you buy everything seperately it seems like youre paying less. If I'd have got a 360 Id have bought all that stuff, and paid pretty much the same as for a PS3.

When I watched their conferences as far back as E3 2005, Microsoft were very much focused on how to make money from something that they would initially make a loss on, their words were along the lines of "yes, we take a hit on the console, but we can make a profit by selling the wireless kit, the play and charge kit etc" Whereas sony was focused more on the gaming experience. How ironic that Microsoft actually has actually done exceptionally well with the games, whereas Sony hasnt so far! Give them a year, hopefully we'll see some good stuff then.

The 20% off, does it automatically get discounted for new buyers or do you have to enter the promotional code?

Because on the Hotdeals voucher page there's a code for £20 off, I want to use that as well but Great Universal only allows one code.

It's automatic as long as it's your first order.

Xbox live is worth £40. Ps3 online is absolute tripe.

Some fair points Russ.
I think Sony missed the boat whilst they waited for Blu-Ray tho. Obviously, in Japan etc its fine, but other places may be slower to adapt to the PS3.
However, I think its quite unfair to say MS werent focused on the gaming experience, but Sony were. Sony were focused on Blu-Ray, at the expense of gaming.
And MS dont seem to have slouched on gaming.
My mate bought a PS3, havent seen it yet tho. And what games did he get, VT3 and Fight Night. Both available for the 360 lol.

Im sure the PS3 will produce some excellent games in a year or 2. But in the meantime, most people will use the 360 (already developers are now capable of making great games on the platform) , and perhaps get a PS3 once its dropped a lot in price, and the top games are starting to come out.

I want to see PS3 level up by some amount or even beat the 360- because competition is good for the buyer.

As far as I can see, nothing about not being against Electrical goods. I think that was for LXdirect. Some people have had problems where the 20% didn't show up, but a quick email, and they sort it for you.

RE Price: Apologies for the price disrepancy, but like someone said, they've bumped it up. It might be worth checking out some of the other bundles.

You should have read the entire deal mate, instead of just bashing the console. After everything is said and done, you could just end up paying about £300 for the console. I also think £425 is too much, but at £300 (after discounts etc.) a bargain for all the functionality. Most posts in this thread seem to forget that the console is being offered for £400 (if you play your cards right) with 2 of the best games and extra controller.

ps. Isn't this forum to discuss the PS3 bargains, and not the whole PS3 v Xbox 360 argument?

Hi, I'm new so my question may be really daft but I'm not too sure about how this Quidco works. Can I definately use the 20% first time buyer discount from Great Universal with the Quidco tracked discount without breaching the terms of the 20% discount from GU?

Thanks a lot

Blu-ray DVDs = £18 each. Think I'll wait before jumping onto that bandwagon.

But I won't buy all those extras with my XBox360.

Anyone who still want to get this (I assume there aren't many) can still do so by adding all the stuff together seperately (PS3 & R:FOM bundle + Motorstorm + Extra sixaxis). It works out at £599 to start with, but after discounts it comes to ~£6 more than the opening deal posted.

anyone had any reply on this?
I ordered on the 26th
they emailed me and told me they'd confirm within 24-48 hours....3 days ago

Thanks for that - have just ordered it as seperates as they annoyingly cancelled my last order because I put in a different delivery address than my home which they can not accept although it does not say so on their website - terrible website and service though - although the deal is pretty good :-D

I understand that you get 20% off your first order and that you can get cashback from Quidco..

But how do you get 10% cashback for spending over £150 is that written on their website anywhere??

Please Click here.

Mine turned up on Wednesday.

£589 - £117.80 (20% Discount) - £35.34 (Quidco) - £37.12 (10% Cash Back) = £398.74.

Sweet.

What happens if you receive the PS3, but don't sign and return the credit agreement?

So this is legit, as I am scared about the 10% cashback from the company...

Kev

yeah, let us know if the 10% does clear as £398 is a nice price, especially if i can get £60 ish for the games on ebay. would be about £350 ish with an extra controller:)

I've requested my cash back as a cheque which I should get next week.

Sweet.

So you rung them and they are giving you cashback?

Kev

You do it online, there's a section for claiming your cash back.

They won't issue cheques for under £20 though, so make sure you pay the whole thing off so you get the full 10%.
