Just so you don't get any accusations, I'd be tempted to put something in your OP about this not being a PlayStation 4.:p

It does say something about it not being a PlayStation 4. In the title it says 'PlayStation 3'. If people can't read that's their fault.

I got excited for a second. Thought it was a ps4!! Heat added good price anyway

is there much of a difference between gameplay of destiny on ps3 in comparison to the ps4 version?

Much cheaper than the shop to deal. Thanks for the heat guys

At this price point you are pretty much just throwing your money away. May as well spend the extra £100 or so and buy a PS4.

More like ~£140 more with Destiny included

PS3 is dying out. Pick up a 2nd hand PS3 or 360 for £80 or less if you are skint. If you can stretch to near £200 then find the other £100 to get a PS4 or a XB1

Great price for what was the best console of last generation for me. Many many top quality exclusives for this beast.

Even so, buying this now is like buying an expensive DVD player. You're basically just spending a lot of money on obsolete technology.

Oh god so many people are going to pick this up thinking it's a PS4.

Some people don't realise Destiny is cross generation.

It's clearly not obsolete though if it's still getting games.

I wasnt planning on getting a ps4 for quite a while but My ps3 stopped playing blu rays a couple weeks ago and I want a new ps3 or ps4. I can afford the ps4 @ shopto but I have loads of ps3 games and my mates are still on ps3. Would anyone like to recommend what I should do?

Terrible deal - cold

Who would spend this much on old tech.

I doubt that it will be getting many games in 12 months from now. Maybe a dumbed down FIFA port once a year and the occasional JRPG but that will be about it.

I would look for an 80gb PS3 Fat for around £50 second hand, maybe even effectively less if the seller is chucking in a load of games.

The 80gb versions came out in around 2008 and had a slight hardware revision and this stopped them from overheating and getting YLOD quite so often, unlike their 60 and 40gb brethren.

You could argue that you're throwing your money away buying a PS4. Next to no true next gen titles, at its most expensive price point and a small library of games. Wheres the 360 and PS3 are at their cheapest and have a huge library of relatively cheap games. You could also argue that the PS4 (along with the X1 for those that get easily offended over a piece of electrical equipment) have also got around 5 years outdated technology. It's more logical buying a PS3 or 360 if we're going to be pedantic about it.

The PS3 is currently a superior media hub than the PS4 too.

Sure, but right now, the PS3 still has games being released for it which means it's far from obsolete. There's evidently still a market for it and not everyone who plays games wants (or can justify) the latest and greatest.

All that being said, I think I would, as others suggested, find a good-condition PS3 Slim pre-owned and get that instead of buying a new one.

PS3 is still a great console and I totally understand people buying them because of back catalogue. But its a buyers market in the second hand domain. You can pick them up so cheap I can't even begin to understand why you would buy one brand new at this stage.

PS3, 360 and PS4.

I bought the PS3 that I have now back in 2012 and it cost less than this one.

Wrong. I had a 80gb and it got YLOD recently. Stop telling people to buy second hand when the seller could be selling some dodgy ps3 to them.

People should wait atleast 2 years before buying a new console as it won't have many new releases and also who know what defects may appear after a while like the YLOD in the early ps3 machines.

Well some people don't want second hand stuff, so there's one reason alone.

You would have to combine an irrational hatred of second-hand gear with an irrational hatred of ones own money. The intersection of that venn diagram is small indeed but I will concede that for those people this is a good deal.....those few people...

It's not irrational, lots of people don't like second-hand stuff. If you've got the money, then there's nothing wrong with buying new items.

My mate got a pre-owned slim from Grainger and he got the same bluray problem as me only a year after owning it. I bought my slim new and have owned it for 6 years until mine messed up.
Buying pre owned can be dodgy and this is exactly why I don't want one. I'd rather pay the extra personally.

But if you have the money, surely you would get the PS4.

Don't understand why you would pay this much for a PS3 when the games will stop being developed on them soon.

I bet Sony are laughing with these 'slim' models they bring out.

Just to add after another year his ps3 has now completely died after having a restore problem. You could waste more money buying preowned depending on the life of the item.

Swings and roundabouts.

Not true - FIFA 15, Destiny and a whole bunch of other games for PS4 for around £20.

Also, plenty of releases for next gen now.
