Playstation Move: Motion Controller

The Playstation move takes motion-sensing gaming to the next level. True 1:1, sub-millimeter tracking puts gamers into the virtual world of the PS3 and allows them to interact with the environment as if the objects were in their own living room. The controller uses the PlayStation Eye camera in conjunction with the light emitting "orb" atop the controller to calculate your position in three-dimensional space. As the orb can change colour, multiple controllers can be tracked simultaneously.

The orb can also be used to enhance in-game actions, for instance changing to red when using a "fire spell". The controller will feature traditional buttons, including a trigger, for those actions which motion-sensing will not capture, such as firing a gun. The possibilities for the motion controller range from simplifying the user-interface of a real-time strategy (selection and commands) to true sword fighting in your favourite role-playing game.

Fantastic, it's getting cheaper. £25 for this and £15 for the other controller and I'm all over it like a rash.

Got one already which I use as PC web cam.

excellent

Quality price, I knew Shopto would go lower after Play beat them.

Play order cancelled and this one done.

Cheers.

Remember the Navi pad is still cheaper at Play though.

Don't you mean the clever mans Kinect?

Give me the whole thing for £30 and i may consider buying the wii move

Its too expensive for me really like a lot of people. Kinect is just ridiculous, and you can kit two players out with PS Move from nothing now for under 110 pounds. But I'll stick to my wii for motion frolics and the rest for serious gaming

I'm going for Move before I get Kinect because the precision of it looks nice for shooter games/golf/table tennis etc. Kinect looks good too, although I think its Microsoft's attempt at attracting the casual gamers whereas Move will be able to accommodate the more traditional genres as well and the precision will make it feel like a grown up refined version of the Wiimote (and obviously with more grown up graphics as well!)

Just hoping both systems don't suffer with too much lag.

The rich serious gamer has all 3 consoles.

Scorching hot against RRP, that's low enough now to convince me to take a punt. Already got the PS Eye, so this is all I need to get started with Move. Obviously then if it goes down well it's possible to grab another motion controller at a later date for multiplayer.

Going to hold off on getting a sub-controller for now unless the Dual Shock 3/Sixaxis ends up severely lacking in suitability for the same purpose. Even if Move ends up being a white elephant I'll only have wasted the money on one controller rather than multiple.

Won't even have to buy new games to start with to try it out since Heavy Rain and a couple of others are getting patched with support.

I want to wait till closer to release, I'm not sure if this will go cheaper or not, I have a feeling it may go more expensive closer to the date, but I'm still on the fence about whether I really want one with so few games supporting it on launch that I haven't already played/finished...

What possess people like you to post comments like that?

You sound like a moron!

Yeah, it's nuts. We're on a deal site, for sharing deals etc. Overall there's a nice vibe here, but the format fanboys really can't leave it alone. LOL.

You really are misinformed. I play mostly on my 360 but I am impressed mostly by "Move". Saying it is an exact copy of the Wiimote is ridiculous.
The levels of accuracy and tracking are leagues ahead of the Wiimote. Get your fanboy **** outta this thread and troll elsewhere.

The biggest difference between the Wiimote and Move, is that Wii can't track the Z axis (even with motion plus).

That's what the glowing ball and eye are for. So when you pull Move back from or closer to the camera, the game can detect this. It's why they're able to do all that stuff which shows an in game avatar holding an in-game object, and it's able to track it perfectly.

On the face of it the Wii comparisons are mostly fair, given the function and form factor, but there's no denying that the technology goes significantly further, to the point that you're going to see games on Move which can't technically be done on any other console.

You gotta love the paranoia in this place...some has an opinion that is different from the majority and they are hounded down as a troll !!.

It's pathetic and childish guys. Grow up and accept not everyone has the same opinions as you. It's life.

It's you that are the real trolls....maybe those that keep calling people troll can have a new name...we will call them 'Troll trolls' Haha

Hot deal by the way

Kevin Butler FTW

More to the point, this motion stuff is absolute rubbish, the direction of video games with motion control is ridiculous, why would anyone want to wave their arms in front of a TV so they can watch their arms being waved on the screen, get back to normal controllers and improve games, ditch the motion control bullocks.

FYI: Kinect Technical Specifications made public (comparison to PlayStation Move & Wii Remote controllers)

In this thread I have hopefully described the difference between the Nintendo & the Sony motion controllers.

Even if that opinion is ill informed and totally inaccurate and incorrect?

Sorry but that is Trolling my friend.

If I went into a Kinect page and said "Oh look, MS have the Eyetoy now, welcome to 1999" that would be an ill informed and incorrect comment and I would be labelled (and rightly so) a Troll.

I'f I'd said "The Kinect does indeed look similar to the Eyetoy, but it has vastly improved on it with new motion capture tech" that is a more informative comment and at least brings something to the thread, a good opinion at the very least.

See the difference???

Are their room requirements for this? Might be stupid question but the light on the top is supposed to help?

Why do people always use this as an excuse for Sony not copying off the Wii? Ofcourse they did whether people like it or not. The only reason ANY of them would do motion sensing technology is ALL due to Nintendos (at the time) quite risky venture.

From wikipedia

"The console was conceived in 2001, as the Nintendo GameCube was first seeing release. According to an interview with Nintendo's game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, the concept involved focusing on a new form of player interaction. "The consensus was that power isn't everything for a console. Too many powerful consoles can't coexist. It's like having only ferocious dinosaurs. They might fight and hasten their own extinction."[11]

Two years later, engineers and designers were brought together to develop the concept further."

Wii was announced in e3 2003 and later shown in e3 2004.

Should I go on further? And that only proves a different way of doing 1:1 motion tracking. It is a ball on a stick - the actual idea of putting buttons on it and doing a 'sub-controller' is 100% due to Wii.

Its laughable seeing all the fanboys comparing this to the Wii.

Hot deals though, Im going for the starter pack for the camera though, hopefully thatll come down a bit in price too.

What do I need buy to use PlayStation Move and how come its not sold in one big pack? Do I need to buy a camera, navigator, and move wand or will just the move wand be enough?

EDIT: It's said that the demo in the video was first shown in 2000.
But judging by how far it had developed and that they showed demos, videos and actual prototypes in 2004 means that it could've been in development from 2000-2003. Also You're right they should've made it so it had no buttons 'cause Nintendo invented buttons. Don't you think somewhere along the line they would've thought this is gonna need buttons? They may have looked at Nintendo for the triggers and the sub-controller.

Depends on game. People are saying you can do a botch job with putting the ps3 controller on its side but it all seems a bit funny to me.
