Because I spent the bulk of the last 8 years pointlessly grinding my way to 42 platinum trophies despite a full time job and want something to comemorate the fact - something, that isn't just my digital PSN score card! For once, something I'd genuinely get myself as only I would understand.

Dunno, but with a specimen that colour they need to go to the doctors...

Same. Love a trophy hunt. Makes games so much more interesting for me, allowing me to fully explore and experience what they have to offer. Back in the day, I'd just go the story then sell...now, I feel like I'm getting so much more out of my games.

Got 114 plats myself. On Vita and PS4.

Don't have any from the PS3 era as I was a 360 convert after MS pulled that used game crap. I didn't like them after that and switched.

Fire Pro Wrestling World is my latest. Been a slow year though, the Red Dead play took me 7 months. Meaning this year I've only done Red Dead, AC Odyssey, Detroit Become Human, Fire Pro, Days Gone and Far Cry New Dawn. Working on last months PS+ now...Batman - think it might be a tough one.

Planning on next Outer Worlds, Ghostbusters, Wreckfest, Jedi Fallen Order and Death Stranding (if its anything like the Metal Gear 5 plat, it will take ages), Two Point Hospital and I might double dip on Civilization as I really enjoyed that on my Switch.

That is incredible effort. I got 30 of my 42 plats on the PS3, none on the Vita, the rest on the PS4 but I feel the older I get (I'm in my early 30s now) the bigger the games get and the less time and inclination I have to go through every book and cranny in a way I could afford to (time-wise) at uni or right after. I mean the last two Assassins Creed games alone, while playing on easy, took me 108 hours and 120 hours respectively. That's an entire month of doing nothing but going to work and going home to play AC.

I also cannot really ever get a Platinum like any of the Rockstar games (although I do have the LA Noire one, it isn't as open world as RDR or GTA) and the best I can do on that is maybe a third of the trophies. I swallow uncomfortably just at the thought of online trophies.

My proudest one is probably the MGS Peace Walker HD Collection one - it took 109 hours and it made me truly appreciate just how much thought and depth went into a handheld game. It is for me, hands down, the best PSP game of all (maybe not that big a deal, given PSP games were pretty average on the whole) and I was delighted that it was given a wider audience by being ported for the PS3, because Sony royally f8ucked Kojima by releasing the Vita just as he poured 2 years into Peace Walker. The amount of Easter eggs, player mechanics, grinding, learning your way around the levels. It is a staggeringly good game and it was a Platinum that made me in equal parts wanna dance and weep.

And I actually stopped liking MGS when it went open-world with MGS4-5. It became too big. For me, sneaking is better in smaller levels which allow you to learn the level design quickly, learn where the enemies are positioned, where their blind spots are etc. If you mess up, it is easy to repeat a level again. It presented stealth action to an average gamer (I got my platinums not through skill, but mostly guides, stubbornness and sheer bloodymindedness) in a way that isn't totally impossible to do right - and having played all MGS games except Portable Ops, I always struggle with the clunky controls. MGS is almost a game that I enjoyed way more by watching somebody skillful and experienced playing it right on YouTube. Snake Eater was fun, but Peace Walker was the game I felt I could actually take part it, and not just watch better gamers than me kick ass at it.

I haven't even bought RDR2 yet precisely because that would mean 2-3 months of me not seeing the sun - the game took 7 years to make and the attention to detail is staggering - but also means it would make me feel bad if I don't go to every single part of the map and do everything single thing imaginable in the towns and countryside.

For me, a Platinum trophy is really about telling me I have 100%-ed a game, I have attained mastery at it, I have done all the replayability value imaginable and can safely sell it on eBay and get the next game, meaning I squeezed maximum I could out of that game.

But it also becomes a burden, in that I often find I buy games only having checked the trophy lists and platinum difficulty rating threads before buying them, which isn't what games should be about. Games are fundamentally about having fun, and very few of my platinums have been 100% fun (some have been a real grind and I've played some truly awful games to get a cheap platinum they offered).

So there's a part of me that almost wants to just buy games and enjoy them for what they are - entertainment, and not a chance to get another platinum.

I told myself I'd quite when I get my 30th. I'm not on 42 and old habits die hard! hahaha.
