You're welcome mate, braver man than me as I'm very much on the fence about VR so am not buying in to it till I am convinced it will be more than a short term gimmick.

I ain't bothering with this. Been stung by Sony with Move and PS Camera before. After a while support will dwindle and you'll be left with a paperweight that has no new games. If not then maybe I will buy one but Sony's past record isn't great on supporting new peripherals.

Always got them the day they come out.

I think £329 is way too much to pay, when the console itself can be bought for circa £200. Will the psvr really make gaming 115% better than it currently is?
  6. TommyNooka's avatar
The fact Sony have barely promoted this yet does not fill me with confidence. I think they'll start promoting it more once the release date for the Neo is announced as the vanilla PS4 experience is going to be lacking.
I can see another Wii type of situation but without the huge sales. People will likely be impressed by the innovation but will quickly tire of the primitive graphics and the inevitable shovelware, it'll be gathering dust in a cupboard in 18 months time.

Yes they do but why would that matter in this case, as there price guarantee only reflects prices of amazon.co.uk self. Thus if there price never chances which it hasn't since you could pre-order it the price i will pay wont change now if they decided to price match at some point before despatching i would pay a lower price. However in this case they wont price match as your not really paying 329.00 pounds for it your paying 349.00 pound and using a voucher for 20 pounds off. Amazon will only see the 349.00 pound and doesn't count the voucher, so no luck there on getting price matched.

If the original PS4 struggles with this (and it will, good VR needs BIG GFX grunt) then you are either going to have to sacrifice resolution or framerate/latency. And it will be resolution that suffers as you can't really get away with low framerate/high latency as this ruins the effect and causes motion sickness.

If the PS VR turns out to have enough exclusive content over the PC version, and does it well enough, I may get it alongside the Vive. But if I do, it will be with a PS4.5. I'm using a 980ti with the Vive and would still like more GFX power.

How much is the 4.5 looking like clocking in at? And when?

nothing is known about the neo, 7th of september there will be info released about it.

That is the thing i am not sure if the original playstation 4 will struggles with it, and i have not heard any reviewer say this only one person has said it might be awefull and than again he didn't specify if it was with the extra processor or not at the time. Furthermore i believe games specific designed for playstation VR might even run smoother than the ones for PC VR as PC VR games once again need to be designed to run over a specific range of different cards and processors were and the pc is not dedicated to just that game there is always stuff running in the background, the playstation VR games only need to make sure they run smooth over 1 type in total so they tend to spend more time focusing on making that perfect. You could argue that games don't always run smooth of ps4 however i find this 99% of the time happens with games that are designed to run over multiple type of concolse and the pc, looking at games that are exclusive to ps4 i haven't found one that didn't run smooth though that is my personal experience.

I think playstation VR is going to suprise us all and probly the one VR that is going to drive the VR market atm as this is the one the public can actually afford. Its not the most inovative/amazing VR experience compared to the PC VR but it will probly be the one driving the VR market.

All over priced at the moment...especially with new consoles on the way. My advice, wait till there's some proven software, and wait till they figure out walking. Least don't buy it blindly...wait till its out and test it first.

Unless of course you're hoping to get it anywhere close to release day and planning to stick it on ebay?...then, go for it.

    For one: http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/ps4-neo-vs-ps4-ps4k

    Which mentions:

"The complaint stems from the fact Sony has specified that all VR games have to run at 60fps minimum to avoid any issues with lag and motion sickness, which is a tricky task for the current PS4. The new console's extra processing grunt will ensure that the experience is smooth without developers having to compromise too much on graphical detail." (See my previous post. Resolution will go as you CANNOT sacrifice FPS. Even moreso if you're starting form a lower 60fps baseline ...)

    60fps is not enough.

For VR to be convincing you need good resolution, high FPS, and as big a FOV as possible. Oculus and Vive run @ 90fps. If the current PS4 is struggling to manage 60fps, you're gonna want the Neo.

Sure, it'll work(ish) on the current model but personally, I wouldn't touch it without the Neo.

I honestly hope Sony do a good job with this. The ready-made PS4 market is MUCH easier to tap into than the current PC one. So it has the potential to give the entire VR sector a big boost. So I honestly hope the current PS4 manages to do at least an OK enough job of it that people will use it.

The future of the VR industry depends on how well Sony pulls off VR. Personally, I think they should market it only for NEO owners, as the low res or fps people will get on PS4 may put people off. Hopefully Sony have a few tricks up their sleeves to keep FPS and apparant resolution and graphics high, e.g. using cell shading instead of texture maps, and using other stylised art designs to make things look pretty without requiring a hulking GPU to produce. Even my Vive doesn't feel like it's quite there yet, so Sony has a big task on their hands.

I have almost always jumped on board adopting new things early but perhaps because I'm getting older I'm getting wiser(or should that be tighter) I'm keeping my wallet firmly closed for longer.

I'm not even playing the price drop waiting game, if it's a success and I like what it's offering after I've taken a demonstrator for a spin in somewhere like Game I'll buy one at the full launch RRP but if not even if it goes down to half price I'll swerve it.

You can't really compare the price of either when judging how better it will be due to the time difference. PS4 has nearly been out for 3 years and was the same price as VR at launch which explains the price difference now, VR will probably be a similar price after that long.
