I bought a PSVR about a month ago so thought I'd share some thoughts for anyone on the fence. At first, the novelty factor is amazing and its truly an incredible experience. The novelty soon fades though, when you get used to it, and you realise that the availability of interesting games is thin on the ground. Resident Evil 7 is an amazing, terrifying experience that you'll never forget as an introduction to VR. SuperHot is brilliant fun, but also soon fades (its a fairly short game). Games like Eagle Flight & VR Worlds are just temporary novelty games, something to show friends, but you soon get bored of them. If there were more games as developed and polished as RE7 it would be great, but sadly there aren't. Farpoint is probably the only other contender. I mostly use the headset now for its 'cinema mode' where you can watch games, blurays, Netflix or Prime on a simulated cinema screen.

Ah, not much of a change then, appreciate the info.
I always get the motion sickness on the PSVR anyway, thought it would be better with the ps4 pro, but not much difference to be honest.......... think i'll just stick with the the vive and chuck this one on ebay

Bought from very with two motion controllers, camera and vr world £350

What's new one like

It has a in built headphones plant, smaller cables and most importantly is setup so you don't need to change the lead to enable hdr, 4k after you have finished playing the vr. Original system you need to swap the hdmi leads around. For someone like me, who has the cables behind a unit..... Major pain. But so far the new system isn't coming out in the UK. Japan and USA only at present. Not europe.

i still waiting for the hundred mark, same there isn't a vr trial

They are just about to update the PSVR. It's not huge but a a few quality of life upgrades.

EDIT - As per blanka

I haven’t seen this “new version “ of the PSVR anywhere yet. Are we sure it actually exists?

It came out in Japan yesterday, but there's no release date for any other region.

..... NICE!!!
Hopefully Godzilla will eat all the new versions, giving me enough time to flog mine off on EBAY for a reasonable amount before the next gen come flooding in

Knew they'd release a new version quickly. The lack of a HDR pass through was absurd, considering it came out near enough the same time as the PS4 Pro. Glad I sold mine whilst the price was still high. Will buy again in the coming years, when the tech is a little better and there are more games available. Then again, it did give me a headache and make me feel sick too...so, maybe not for me.

Really wish sony did some kinda of 'rent a headset' so you could try them out for a couple of days. Would be a big purchase for me.

If the headset tech is the same between both versions bar the smaller cables, attached earbuds and the pass through (no 4k tv anyway) i might wait for a nice fat price drop on this model.

Thanks for the informative and honest opinon. Having had an Oculus Rift at work, I feel the same about VR at the moment.

I would also add that driving games don't feel right in VR, having tried Project Cars. The VR shows you are turning a corner, but you can't feel anything in your body. I would rather play on a TV.

The fear of it being a novelty factor is the one reason I have held off buying. I was tempted to buy one for the family for Christmas with some of the deals that are appearing just now but with a possible new coming out and not a lot of games I think I will leave it for now, It’s too expensive an item just to lie in a cupboard. I could put that cash towards a gtx 1080ti.

greatest PSVR deal ever? likely. dont be put off by the new model coming out. it just has a HDR pass through (if your too lazy to change HDMI port) and the buttons have been placed on the headset itself instead of on the cable.

I can see a ps4 slim with vr bundle for £399 on BF or around Xmas.

tempted if it came with the controllers too

Purchased then cancelled the order not all of the game is VR supported

It's only minor changes... you won't see a proper PSVR 2 until the PS5 is out

So mixed opinions on the vr as I’m tempted to get on on Black Friday any other thoughts?

I bought the PSVR on launch day, played it for about a week then decided to get my money back because I just knew quality games were going to be thin on the ground.
Quite tempted to jump back in with the likes of Bravo Team and Dreams by media molecule on the way, maybe i'll wait to see if anything is announced at Paris Games Week and PSX....

Glad better deals coming in, but when you consider the Rift bundle is £399 now permanently and how much better that is, plus includes touch controllers, I genuinely think this should be inside £200 by comparison.

Considerably more and better free software/games on Rift too

jump back in, gtsport vr mode looks good and more games are going to be getting released so the support is still there.

Don’t you need a pretty powerful PC to run it though?

Interesting, so does the Rift work on PS4 now?

In all seriousness, the Rift pricing is great but you need to factor in the costs of the PC as well if you don't already have one capable, this still makes the PSVR more accessible to most people. I do feel sub-£300 would seem more appropriate for PSVR though and expect that we will see that drop this holiday season, but doubt it will go any further than that just yet, and given that will just be the base PSVR, maybe with a camera if we are very lucky, deals like this are still very good value.

All good points. Definitely if you're interested in VR then get the system that's best for you. I have a PS4 but bought a gaming rig with VR in mind a few years ago (obviously in the minority there).

My point was simply to compare pricing strategies. At this point in time VR needs to be getting to as many people as possible, the quality of hardware and software on the Oculus front compared to Sony at the moment is prob comparable between flagship versus budget phones.

I suppose another way at looking at it, £600 min, say £800 for a fairly decent gaming rig for VR. You've then got £400 for complete VR package, 50% compared to PC. That seems OK, especially when people will spend £250 and up for a display.
Whereas PS4Pro is £350 (I think). How many people are going to over double that investment?
