Definitely not a scam, funded by local authorities. It's just not well advertised

If true then it's obviously far better than having to find an internet café (locatorio) with it's damaged keyboards etc, and sitting there for a while every day..... especially if you're not in a tourist area or an area with lots of foreigners.
Wonder if I'd still be able to use my own tablet to do ebay, or would that be blocked when out of the uk ?

Interesting

by using the service your agreeing that they can track you and monitor you holiday habits
mind you your own internet provider does the same

Ordered.. going to Fuerteventura in August. Not mainland Spain... but let me complete the registration process nonetheless!

Ordered for July in Spain, hope it works will save me a good few £'s

Website registered to an individual at a private villa in Barcelona.

Could we have some more information please- any necessity to give a credit card as a deposit when taking the equipment?

Who will have access to data which shows when you are out of the country?

Given this is supported by the tourist board of Spain and these large companies listed on the website, any official communications on this at all?

Many thanks

Register as going for a week to ibiza

FreeClick just published some kind of short Q&A / FAQ:

freeclick.com/int…ion

Only ever get 404 cannot find error

I contacted the Barcelona Tourism board mentioned on the website. This was their reply which although not quite clear English is to the point. So watch put if you plan to use this.

Good morning.

According to your email the tourist office is not involved in this initiative.

Yours faithfully.

I signed up for this as I have family in Spain & am due to travel over on 6th June. I received a email requesting this information... Still not sure how happy I am with it, anyone...

1.Complete destination address where we should send the kit
2. A contact telephone number
3. Confirmation of your date of arrival and departure (date when you will be returning the device)
4. A photo of your passport for identity confirmation.

I received the email too, not keen on giving out that kind of information either.

I got it too.
I thought that it originally said you would collect the device from a FreeClick partner, not have it delivered? Have emailed them..

So, it seems that there are charges involved although how these are enforced legally I dont know. An excerpt from the T&C page states the following:

In case of loss or damage of equipment within the contract period, … In case of loss or damage of equipment within the contract period, customers will be charged the following compensation by FreeClick: - SIM Data CARD: 15,00€. - Pocket WiFi (MiFi of Phone) device: 50,00€ - USB cable: 5,00€

Also, and here is the deal breaker. For each person who is nominated a kit, they require them to send a scanned picture of their passport photo page with details and also the full address of where the person will be staying in Spain.

Given the data requested has all the characteristics of a phishing scam albeit a very elaborate one, then it would be good to get some official confirmation that this venture is legit. I have emailed Spanish Tourist Information to get their take on it first.

So, further update. I contacted the official Spanish Tourist Information centre and explained that a website using their branding are offering a free internet venture to tourists on the provision of supplying a scanned passport as identification.

Here is the response I received:

Please note we do not know who this company is and have had no dealings … Please note we do not know who this company is and have had no dealings with them whatsoever, they are using our logo without our permission, so we suggest you do not send anything to them.Best regards,TOURSPAIN
