Plusnet upload speed increase FREE! - possibly account specific

Little freebie here! Not sure if account specific but worth taking into account if you are looking for broadband with fast uploads

So I've currently got the 38mbps fibre with Plusnet and I've just received this email! Its really handy as I was considered upgrading to their other fibre purely because I'd only ever get 1mbps uploads, and now its increased to 10 for free! Also im not sure if im posting in the right section.

Here is the email

Hello
It’s all good news! Improving your service, no cost no catch.

From November we’ll be boosting the upload speed of your service, going from 1.9Mbps up to a whopping 9.5Mbps, which should make uploading stuff to the internet quicker*.

Broadband upload speeds are important for most of the things you do online so we’re improving them for you, at no extra cost. This means things like sending emails with big attachments, uploading your holiday pics to Facebook and gaming will be quicker. Check out our blog post for more info on this.

There’s nothing for you to do, we’ve got it all sorted. You might have a small drop in your connection, no longer than a minute, whilst we work on this for you. Everything should reconnect straight away, if not just reboot your router. We’ll be back in touch once this has happened.

Thanks,
The Plusnet Team

Upload speed should already be 10mbit on a 38mbit fibre package.

Ive always been told its capped at 1.9 ,their selling point was they would do 20mbps if you upgraded to the 26mbps deal! (At least in Lancashire, thats how its marketed)

Plusnet's 38 mbps fibre offering has always been a 40/2 profile, unlike most others' equivalent offering, which is usually a 40/10 profile.

Certainly, you are right! 1.9mbps upload has been pretty rubbish to be fair haha

About a year ago when taking their standard fibre it wasn't clear throughout the order process that they had capped upload to 2mbps. They wouldn't budge and told me I was outside of the 14day cooling off by the time my fibre was connected. Eventually had to go to the advertising standards agency who took the case to them. They upped it straight away as a "good will gesture". I followed it through on my support ticket to make sure they made it clear in the order process what upload speeds you'd get. They did.

Anyhow, its about time that 2mbps limit goes!

capped upload to 2mbps

Don't wish to be picky, but it's not a "cap". Plusnet resell Openreach's 40/2 FTTC product. It's cheaper than the 40/10 product. But they're changing to the latter.

WRONG!!

It used to be 40/20.

They down-graded it to 2Mb a couple of years ago; so basically they are giving back half of what they took away.

Appreciate that my terminology may not be technically correct - call it what you will, effectively you understand what I was saying.

The point was that this was not advertised clearly.

A long time ago, yes, 40/20. But all current accounts are on 40/2. This is being changed to 40/10.

By "a long time ago", you realise it was the summer of 2015?? By my calendar that makes it nearly 2 1/2 years.

Even better, although they were cutting the upload speed by 90%, there was no reduction in the price they were charging.

Dont argue, I can post a link to a tech site news comment for the cut dated June 17th 2015.

Correct, not always. It used to be 40/20 in the old days.

Mid 2015 sounds about right for the end of 40/20, by my recollection. Since then it’s been 40/2 for the first tier fibre offering.

Love it how they put “whopping” in the email, what they should of said is: We’ve been ripping you off for long enough here’s the rest of what you should of had in the first place, but we’ll make it sound like we’re doing you a favour.

Marketing is like that.

Sadly back then I had no idea I should have had the 10mbps!

Back then it wast 10Mb, it was 20Mb!! So they are STILL ripping you off!!.

New customers should get the new speed immediately:

cable.co.uk/new…94/

....that's why my existing Plusnet fibre speed which was very fast is going down then

I hope that Plusnet do start rolling out faster upload speeds - I'm getting around 700kbps which is terrible for uploading anything!

Im on virgins 100mb and my upload is only 9mb. All of the main broadband providers give crap upload speeds, its a cheat to increase their download speeds by freeing up bandwidth.

By comparison, Virgin is worse for upload speed than the ADSL / VDSL providers. E.g, you can get 20 up just by getting 76 down on many FTTC providers, but to get 20 up with virgin you have to buy their 300 down product - considerably more expensive than the FTTC offerings.

Wish they'd boost my upload speed "to a whopping 9.5Mbps"

So who's getting this upload speed just checked mine and still 1.9
