No this probably won't work. DDR3 is a newer form of RAM and so it won't be compatible with your older motherboard. An upgrade for you will probably have to be DDR / DDR2 (you'll have to check this).

Uno i was looking at the XMS even tho they are designed for the corei5/i7 should they work in any ddr3 slot? with any processor

Pretty good. I'm planning my first ever PC build and it's getting scarily expensive - Intel i5 Based system with 5 series ATI card are certainly pricey

Can't decide whether to go for a pair, or should I stick with my original plan for a single slot of 2gb?
(I plan to add more at the end of January but my budget is tight).

whatever you do - don't skimp on the PSU! the cheaper ones are rubbish and
your investment in mobo etc may go to waste

you can get a good 400w Corsair one for around £40

Glad to hear i'm not the only one stressing. I'm currently getting freaked out by air flow and cooling even though I haven't committed to a case yet

I keep 'falling in love' with individual components then realise I can't afford other essentials. May even have to live without a monitor and connect to my TV temporarily lol.

Any PSU assistance would be appreciated. I will never forgive myself for stumbling across the SeaSonic X650 Gold - Is it possibly a little excessive?

Indeed, since a cheap maplin PSU blew my mobo in 2005 i refuse to even look at a cheap psu 400w should be more than enough for my system

Go for a pair - dual channel memory should improve system performance. Although it may not be noticeable.

Heat from me. I paid £62 for 4 Gb of 10666 1333 CL9 just recently and felt that I was getting a bargain.

If you can I wuold buy a cheap(er) video card now or use on board and then get the new one after Christmas true VAT will have gone up but both Nvidia and ATi stopped making a lot of the higher end stuff some time ago and that's driving prices up once the newer stuff hits these shores in the new year expect prices to plummet quickly

I'f you're getting a good graphics card then I would go for a 450W branded PSU. You can often find Antecs cheaper than Corsairs.

i was looking at this ebuyer.com/pro…596 should last a good few years or this one as Corzair suggested ebuyer.com/pro…985

Nothing wrong with using the TV if it has a decent resolution I do both then lob movies etc across to the TV

Play do a 3GB kit of the same stuff seemingly for £40 so if you want 4GB it then comes to £54 (40 + 14) - PNY 3GB.

That seems remarkably good value, i'm struggling to bring mine in at under £700 with the parts I'm looking at. The motherboard and processor is already blowing £250 of the budget so I may have to consider going for an ATI 5770 to bring the cost down. (The 5850 is my ideal choice but it's oos everywhere anyway).

I'm not in a major rush I suppose, so maybe waiting til the new year is sensible. Will have to stick with the ageing laptop a little longer :-D

Out of stock?

Hot!!!

..scurries to see if any of our 4 pc's will take this!

nice find OP

Has anyone's been posted yet? Mine has been sitting at packing for 2 days..
