"PNYs GeForce 9800GT graphics card is available now and comes with a 3-year replacement warranty. PNY also bundled Company of Heroes: Opposite Front and Frontlines: Fuel of War, two awesome games that will consumer many hours."

If true, this deal may be better than i thought!!!

Performance is exactly the same as the 8800GT.
In fact, they have the exact same specs so quite a good price!

Great price for this as it seems to compare favourably to the HD 4850:thumbsup:

Sorry about the link, it should be working now.
thanks gavinlewishuk

Many thanks for fixing the link.

I'm just searching for reviews of the 9800GT, there very few at the moment.

If anyone can link us all to a review that would be superb!

I linked a review second comment down. Oh yeah and I've only gone and ordered one. I'm so broke..I'm so broke....I'm so broke....

So you did, but tweak town told me they dont like my sort around here..(i've got AdBlock Plus installed).

according to that review it benches just below the 4850

have a read here (quite geeky)

Although this is a great deal (and performer) the HD4850 is still the better card from what I've been reading. If your really can't afford the £20 or so extra then go with this card as it is good but if you can then I think your much better off investing in the Radeon 4850 as the Radeon is more the equal of 9800GTX and +!!!

And no offence but I've never trusted tweaktown and this seems to be another faulty looking review from them. Better of waiting for tomshardware and Anandtech etc to publish their reviews.

Anyone considering the 4870? I know its it is more expensive, but a better card in the long run.

You can get the 8800GT 256mb from Misco for £65 delivered which I think is a better deal.

Original Poster

its almost double the price, at around £170
depends on which resolution you play at; 1900x1200 and beyond would show a big difference when using a 4870 rather than the 9800gt

Isn't the 256mb version of the 8800GT at Misco really sub-par though? I just had a gander through some reviews and apparently the 256mb version of the 8800gt doesn't perform too well compared with it's 512mb brother.

I have a HD2600XT 512mb card and was weighing up whether to get a 8800GT or *now* this one. Any advantages? They're both the same price now.

They're the same price, but this one is newer. Go for the newer one, there's bound to be some slight advantages.

i'm afraid not, the performance of the 8800gt 256mb is comparable to the 3850, so it is suited to lower resolutions and no/little AA and AF

hot if this is similar performance to the 8800gt

any ideas what kind of PSU is required to run this card though? my current PSU is an OCZ modstream 450w and i am currently weighing up upgrading from a sapphire 512mb x1950 pro to either an 8800gt, ati 4850 or this card. only thing i am unsure about is how much juice each require. if anyone knows which (if any) of these are suitable for my PSU please let me know and ill send some rep your way!

I know this is slightly more expensive (by about £12), but considering it's £164.99 at Play.com, it seems like the better deal ebuyer.com/pro…ews
An overclocked zotac 512mb 8800GT for £96.99 delivered.
Faster mhz than the 9800GT listed here too.

If CEX.co.uk pay cash for old graphics cards then I'm definitely thinking of going for that one.

This is a very good deal - i would recommend this to anyone... I have one of these and paid a lot more, but really impressed with it.

Have you used cex.co.uk before? Is it any good, the only thing is that they value your items once they have them.

Gonna look more into that myself, get rid of some stuff

performance will match 8800gt at minimum TBH

I have used them before, for trading in games and phones. And you're right they *value* them, aka, always give you the worst grading possible ; )
Terrible prices for buying though IMO, but for a graphics card fully boxed etc, I don't think they could really find much fault with it. And the cash price on their website says £34.99 if I remember correctly for a HD2600XT 512MB

My only concern would be whether Play.com are selling the 'Full Retail' version or the 'Retail Lite' version, which only comes with a driver/utility CD
