Would an ssd speed up my launch model ps4?

I am not sure it will....I remember when I had a launch model ps4, I did do some research at the time (a few years ago), but it appeared to make no difference to loading times...based on watching YouTube at the time...but more recent research ,it does appear to make a difference to the ps4 pro....but that could all be down to newer firmwares / operating system updates, so it might be worth you investigating further.

Because the PS4 Pro has support for the sata3 interface... it can take advantage of SSD speeds, unlike the 2013 ps4

I did upgrade my ps4 pro internal drive with the 1tb ssd for £67ish pny via another link, I did some tests too, loading times are a lot quicker, plus with games like borderlands 3 when gaming, the textures load up way quicker... Definitely a worthy upgrade.

Glad to hear that I wasn't sure about whether I needed a new SSD till BF and now had to grab it for 74 quid.

At the current SSD prices, it is worth it, I already have a 3tb external hooked up to the ps4, but if not, then I would of bought a cheap caddy for the old 5400rpm hdd from the ps4 and used it as my external drive.. Makes the ssd drive upgrade a worthy purchase... If on a low budget buy a 500gb ssd and use the 1tb hdd as the external drive and just move the games that you play onto the SSD... Cheap upgrade.
