Are there any games that will benefit from 6GB GDDR5?

I tend to think that Crysis will always want more haha

Obviously intended for insaine level of CAD design

Bargain!. haha

cheaper at dabs, cold I am afraid :P lol at least you can buy two and SLI them up

Any CAD designers around? Why is it acceleration is only available on this uber expensive cards?

Surely in the grand scheme of things a 6990 or NVidia equiv would be more or less the same in speed?

The only exception I can think of is the build quality, the need to max the card out 8 hours a day, 5 days a week (assuming it's not rendering at night)

Don't forget, the price includes the optimisations made for that kind of work, there are a lot more gamers than CAD designers, hence the massive difference in price.

I'm a CAD designer and can think of no reason to buy this card . I do mechanical 3D design ( and in my old job multi layer circuit board design) and will not be rushing out to buy one of these LOL.

is the securicor delivery charge an extra ?

Deleted my comment by mistake but what I wanted to say is that they're misleading the customers with these cards by slapping a different name to the standard gaming cards and jacking the price. You can buy an Nvidia GeForce 590 card for about £600, which is pretty much 2 of these cards in one with half the Ram of this but will outperform this card any time of the day.

Only supports 2 monitors cold from me.
Can you SLI two of these?

They are over priced but it’s more complicated than you suggest.
They have to develop and certify drivers for high end software packages (CAD etc) which doesn’t come free.

These silly posts just make me groan... that is all.

It's all about the certified drivers.

I'll ask my boss if I can have one.

I think he meant any "GOOD" cad designers

I worked at a university that ordered one of these once (for a similarly exorbitant price), and took great pleasure in pointing out that they'd been sent a bog standard PNY consumer gaming card in a different box (think it was a refurb), it still had the gaming style label on the HSF

They were NOT impressed

Why do you bother reading it and then make a comment about it. I thought it was quite funny when I found this on google so I thought it would be a good topic of conversation.

mwah mwah mwah. love you xxx

the difference between these and the regular cards, is not in the technology, but the fact that the bios has certain accelerated apis disabled on regular cards, but enabled on the drivers for Quadro. If you can persuade your regular geforce card to appear as a quadro card to the driver set it will have all the accelerated features necessary.

It is really just a bit of a scam which involves collusion with the major CAD software houses. The standard 3d rendering hardware capabilities in a gaming card are perfectly able to manage the shading and 3d requirement of advanced CAD.
