Er...with a bit more imagination and a sprinkle of wanderlust you can drive to Boulogne [go along the coast road from Calais as it is very scenic], drive to Arras [beautiful and well-preserved town], drive to Lyon [shopping/restaurants/change of scenery] or drive to the gob-smackingly beautiful Bruges for a memorable though short very cheap trip.

You do realise that Calais isn't an island in the channel don't you oO

P&O also have 25 each eay for 10 night stays up to the end of March.

Looks tempting.

I hope you mean Laon, not Lyon - nearly 1000 mile round trip in a day is pushing it a bit

Might have meant Lens or Lille maybe?

No - reckon Laon which isn't that far really - stayed their on the way back from Italy pre a morning Calais crossing a few years ago, had some exhibition with projected light on all public buildings.

Humble Pie time, yep it was Lille. Been watching too much of Monty Don traipsing around France!

Does anyone know what needs to be done to a UK car before it can be taken over to France?

I know my insurance company needs to be informed and perhaps paid off. I have heard stuff like headlights need to be modified and spare bulbs being carried. Is this true? Anything else I need to consider.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.
