Would love to see your reaction if you saw how much a good condition boxed copy of Pokemon Crystal goes for these days.

Yeah i can understand that but i think personally if something is really good like this it doesn't really matter how old it is it's still worth a price like this. Anyways what I mean by physical is that it will be a code inside a box that looks like the gameboy cases. Its not actually a physical cartridge.

OP did you add the postage charge or a mod? Amazon pre-orders are always free delivery
Been this price for a while no? Would rather buy from here than Game though

To be fair, that's irrelevant. A few years ago I did buy a second hand Crystal. Battery was dead, contacts rusted up.

My point was that for just a bit more you could have Sun/Moon (been recently selling for £20) or even get a used HeartGold/Soul Silver, much better games (in terms of presentation) for not much more.

Nine pounds just seems a lot for what is in effect, a GB VC game with cardboard box thrown in.

Yeah sort of. The RRP is this but Nintendo store charge for delivery effectively making this the cheapest option. Also these boxed versions tend to come in and out of stock all the time so i thought this would be useful.
Is this still a code in a box?

Yeah
Just an empty box at official price. For same amount you have Japanese edition with goodies. Dunno how people can buy this and deal burn.

Japanese edition??? Do share
I think these re-releases are lazy as hell. Nintendo definitely should have made a physical cartridge! That said, I do think these are worthy purchases and I’ve bought all of them so far. This is a fair price for what is perhaps regarded as the definitive early Pokemon experience. Yellow will always have a place in my nostalgia basket though. You can’t beat the rekindling of childhood memories...

Seems quite crazy, there's even someone selling a fake box (no game) for 14 quid. Still you can't really compare the price of an ancient re-release to an inflated collectable. I mean you can get things like doom and bayonetta for less. Personally if it was a physical copy I'd more likely to see some of its value, but I just can't with nintendos eshop. Granted I already have the original anyway. I also don't like how the eshop is tied to the console. Obviously if someone really wants it they should do what they want, but I do tihnk Ninendo take advantage of the pricing, and it probably puts people off from most of their titles.

Would be a waste since the 3ds is region locked, unless you mod it of course.

I would have personally liked physical cartridges too, however I wouldn't say these releases are lazy. Effort has been made to patch the games to work with WiFi trading, then in Yellow you can play the Surfing Pikachu Mini game without having to obtain a Surfing Pikachu from Pokemon stadium on an N64, which would obviously be impossible.

On Gold, Silver and Crystal in addition to WiFi trading the effort was made of ensuring Mystery Gift works with the IR port on the 3DS, so you can still obtain items for your room. On Crystal we also get the unreleased in Celebi event unlocked after beating the Elite Four, previously this was only obtainable in Japan via the use of the GameBoy Mobile adapter, which allowed the GameBoy to go on the internet and download the event.

Finally you can also use Pokebank to transport all your Pokemon up to Sun / Moon and beyond, it's been impossible to transfer Pokemon from Gen 1 and 2 to later generations until these VC releases.

That is by far my favorite feature as i wen't to the effort of backing up my savegames from my original GameBoy game cartridges, with some tinkering its possible to get these on the 3DS. So I could finally bring my 17 year old Pokemon I trained up as a kid to the modern games

All in all i do think a lot of thought an effort was put in to these VC releases of the old GameBoy Pokemon games. A cartridge release would have been the icing on the cake, however likely too expensive to do, given how people are already complaining these are £8.99.

Lazy was purely related to the fact a physical release would have been better. I also use the bank and agree that it was a big selling point for me too
