Polarised sunglasses in Aldi for £3.99.

They seem great to chuck in the car for driving. As good as the ones I paid £28.99 for in Boots and almost the same design!

They have them in metal and plastic frames.

Good spot. Thanks

I got a pair a few years ago. They are still going strong, and by far the best sunglasses you'll get for this money!

Thats good to know, thank you. I am thinking of going back for another pair. I compared them next to the Boots ones I bought and the Aldi ones black out completely my computer screen when its on an angle. The Boots ones don't make the screen go completely black. I'm assuming then that the Aldi ones are filtering out more glare. But I could be completely wrong!

I'm typing this wearing them sat in the sun typing quite happily on my Samsung tablet, fine from all angles. These are the ones I bought maybe 2/3 years ago. Worth a punt for £4.

You have sun... its bloody freezing here!

The only annoying thing is that there is no mirror to see if they suit you. Saying that, Boots supplied a mirror and charged £28 so I shouldn't complain.

I also got some a few years ago and they're doing great. I'd also agree theyre better than ones I got from boots for ten times the price.

Damn I wish I had got another pair before posting, I bet they sell out now lol!

If there's no mirror, try using the camera on your phone

That my friend.. is genius! Thank you I will remember this little tip!

I have tried both boots and these and in my opinion these are only worth £3.99.

Whats with all the boots sunglasses ..
Need to get out more and visit places that sell sunglasses not keep going into sterile overpriced environments!

In liquid crystal displays (LCDs), use is made of linear polarisers, familiar to most as the glass in polarising sunglasses. If you “cross” two polarisers (i.e. arrange them at 90 degrees to each other) then light does not pass through. This is the basis of the LCD, but between the cross polars the liquid crystals are arranged with a “twist”. This twist allows light to pass through. However, when an electric field is passed through the liquid crystals, the twist is removed, and so light cannot pass through – the area appears black. Physlink.com

Where did you buy those glasses? Aldi.

What makes them better than other sunglasses?
Aldi/Lidl sell sunglasses for this price quite often but not polarised, which suggests the polarised attribute is not that important. But I didn't try them so I am unfamiliar with the hole polarised story

They filter out reflected light. I'm sure someone can explain the science of it better than me, but I can't be bothered to Google it.
If you're fishing they remove the glare from water so you can see fishy fish underwater.
If you were trying to look through a window that would ordinarily have glare on it, these would enable you to see through.
Good when driving to stop the puddles and wet roads from blinding you...
Etc etc...

I don't know about them being better than other polarised sunglasses but they are cheaper. I've not seen polarised before at this price. As for looking cheap. They are simply functional sunglasses for chucking in my car. If I'm going to a posh do I would wear my designer glasses that were £300, or I would wear the Aldi ones, I'm not fussed if people judge me by where my sunglasses come from.
I'm really happy with them for the price.

I was actually asking if they are better than normal sunglasses, not just polarised ones, because Aldi/Lidl sell sunglasses for this price often and they are not polarised. Surprised the polarised do not incur a premium if they are worth it

From what I can gather its more a case of what you will use them for. They are great for car driving as they take out that glare you get on the road, however they are not recommended for bikers as they can also take away the glare coming from an oil seepage that could cause a biker to skid.
I've not tried this but fishermen love them as they get a better view of the water as the glare is taken away.
Also they are not great with some technology as they make the screen go black. No point in wearing them if they make your sat nav look like its turned off!
So can't really say better than normal sunglasses, just better in some circumstances. I like them for driving in summer when they take away all the haze etc. And for the price you can't go wrong.

Thank you! I go to lots of different supermarkets but I love olive oil and dark chocolate from Aldi. Honestly they taste better than from shops that sell it at twice the price. In fact I think Aldi olive oil has won awards.

Got 3 identical pairs on Saturday. I'm good to go for 2 or 3 years. Thanks OP
