Sometimes I think that if you posted up a deal for a sack of excrement reduced down to a fiver people would buy it just because it had been reduced. For a site dedicated to saving money, people seem very keen to waste it.

I think a sense of proportion needs to be obtained here...

I've got to disagree strongly with @whydoiwastemytimehere - I use one of these in our little cafe and it's a cracking piece of kit. I purchased it at £25 and thought it was an absolute steal!
Cheers OP, thanks for sharing.

Spec for anyone interested:

30w

bluetooth/optical/aux (red/white leads) & mp3 link connections.

2 presets, movie & music.

Remote control.

(Please don't flame me because I bought one, bought 2 actually)

Isn't 'horrendously bad' worse than 'very bad'?
Nationwide deal. Just picked up 8 near Manchester. Label still said £40 in that store, so very likely everyone's local will still have stock if label wasn't changed. Thanks very much OP

It's something I'll never understand to be honest. Something either sounds good or it sounds mediocre or rubbish. This is a thing that seems more prevalent with audio equipment than TV's- people won't buy a TV that has a rubbish picture, but they'll buy audio equipment that sounds rubbish.
That's not a criticism, just an observation, but one I've never been able to get my head around. I don't need to hear that sound bar to know it sounds rubbish- I've yet to hear any sound system of any kind under £100 that sounds good- even acceptable- to my ears- or at least not without changing the speakers first.
We'll have to agree to disagree, as obviously standards vary, but personally I'd rather not listen to music at all than listen to it on a bad system, it just frustrates me.

You're obviously judging based on your hearing. Many folk have damage from many years abusing them and therefore probably can't define the clarity of individual sounds like you. Therefore something like this might sound not much different from an £800 bit of kit

I think its down to the simple fact that a large number of people, don't know what quality reproduction is? They simply have no gauge to measure it by, and are unaware of how it should sound.

Hi Majik you are using this a background music/TV speaker in your Cafe. Yes it works well, as would any medium to low quality sound device in that environment. And If I had a cafe I might use on of these especally at £4.50, and being able to remote control it is useful. But as a sound system for home TV watching, it leaves a hell of of a lot to be desired. But as I said for £4.50 it will sound louder and possible better than some TV's internal speakers, but at full price i wouldn't buy one. So i was simply waning those who don't know that its not very good at accurate reproduction -not that it wont make a noise.

Hi Nofaddey which Manchester store please?
Not nationwide. Still full price (got assistant to scan it) in Cheltenham
Can't argue with this. It'll be better than the speakers on most telly's and the Bluetooth is a bonus.

I've looked into this and there is one brand of TV that has worse built in sound than this - Polaroid.

Checked Gloucester Asda, they have two different types on sale one 16w and one 30w. The 30w was scanning full price ( £45 ) , the 16w scanned at £15. Seems to be region or store specific.

It was Astley Bridge doubt they’ll be any left though. Try call them if you’re coming from Bury might save yourself a wasted trip.
