Think this might be a mis-price - Superfi are selling them for £499 on their website but £285 on amazon.

I thought they might have priced for a single speaker but took the chance and ordered. Two boxes turned up (next day) and I'm pleased to say they are absolutely awesome. They sound like a £500 speaker and are really nicely made.

Polk are not well known here but they are well known in the USA (where they are designed) and other countries and they are seriously good speakers. At £499 they are good. At £285 they are cracking.

Lots of good reviews out there.

Specs here : polkaudio.com/pro…s50

BTW - the TEAMTRADE listing at £315.64 + delivery from Italy is for a single speaker. I know because I asked them via Amazon and they replied ....

Ordered, thanks!

Been after a good deal on some decent speakers for a while. Like you say, seem to be £499+ everywhere else.

thanks. Certainly looks like a good deal. Wish they weren't black. i'm just nit picking
i'm just not sure how the bass would complement my setup with these.

Would it be redundant?

Do you mean would my Sub be redundant?

Not sure. I just use mine in a stereo (2.0) configuration and these speakers dig deep in the bass department. Though the thing that makes them stand out IMO is that they have a really good midrange and treble that doesn't get swamped by the bass at higher volumes.

yeah sorry i wan't clear with my question. I've a Denon 6300 11.2 atmos av reciever but only a single sub in the setup. I'm wondering if the fact that these two speakers each have bass that would mean i achieve my 0.2 in the setup i am seeking and i can disconnect my current sub

2nd that. I've had a Bush radio plus cassette deck for 30 years. Got auto-reverse and everything. The sound is mind bending.
I am tempted by these. As someone else said, it's a pity they're black, might not look right in the room..

These also seem to be geared more towards home cinema than hi-fi..

i'm looking for floor standing speakers for my home cinema setup and these might be the answer but having searched and read what i can find on google i am not convinced as i can't find clear answers on how the bass is handled in a setup that already has a sub

That will be dependent on your processor/receiver and how you have set it up. A basic av receiver will have option to set speakers as small or large. In most cases, if you set to large, a full frequency range will be sent to the speakers with lower frequency being sent to the sub as well. If you set to small you will also set a crossover point, probably at 80hz, and this will split the higher and lower frequencies between sub and speakers. Hope that helps a bit!

Edit: Just saw your post about using as side surrounds in an 11.2 set up! I had assumed before seeing that you were considering use in a more basic set up so I suspect the info posted above is something you are well aware of and probably not much help!

Ideally the shouldn't be cracking at any price ;-) Hot!
Wow, great price. Heat and bought! I can use these as front two speaker replacements in an existing 5.1 setup. Now just need to replace my rather meagre centre and surrounds speakers!

Buy another pair for your surrounds!
Are these better than q acoustics 3050?

I take it that was 'tongue in cheek? Polk are a massive audio company in the USA and beyond and very well respected. Did make me chuckle though.

No worries. I just saw your other post about trying to use the speakers to also double up as a replacement for your sub. In a nutshell the answer would be no, not the way forward so probablly not the end of the world that you missed out!
