Evap aircon is rubbish; dont waste your money.
These only work properly in desert climates. They need the air to be dry, so that it will absorb the evaporated water (and therefore they increase the humidity of the air).
In the UK the air is never that warm (e.g. 40°C) and it is always humid to start with. I cannot see how this would be useful in the IUK. Unless you want to grow mold on your walls.

It’s vented so not sure if this is true. I have the model below which is also vented and it’s works well as long as you have a good way of venting it outside.

I'ma bit confused as to what this is. This unit is 12,000 BTU, I didn't think air coolers were that powerful?

I could point you to a 19500btu unit if you want, but it’s £840.00.
I have bought it 2 weeks ago. The price is not a promotion as it is the standard screwfix price. Having said that, obviously I could not test it in hot temperatures but I have switched it on and measured the air blowing at 4.5 degrees, which is the same as I get from the Daikins I have in Italy. It is definitely not an evaporative cooler as it has the outlet pipe behind and you can hear the compressor going on and off. It is not too noisy for being portable (of course it is nowhere as quiet as a wall mounted one). It blows a significant amount of air so I'm confident that it will do a good job, should we have another summer like last year. At that price is a steal. Very recommended!
I brought it about 2 weeks ago my apartment gets very hot up to 28c a few weeks ago brought my open plan apartment down to 20c which is what I had it set down to you could feel such a difference when leaving my front door very cool and the air is breathable

Where did you bring it?
Ive Just ordered a 12000btu replacement today. Not cheap at £360.00 but it’s quality unit that heats and cools.
I will post the details after delivery as they run out of stock so quickly last year.

If you look after the unit they last for a long time. 12 years so far.

This is the unit it’s replacing, found on hotukdeals , August 2007 @ £80.00 in store.

By evaporative, I think it means it evaporates the water it collects so it can be released through the outlet pipe, requiring you to empty the water collection tank less frequently

Not a deal though. This is the standard price.
My word, that is a long time for a portable air conditioner to last.
Looking at the picture from screwfix it heats and cools.
I bought this one last year, boy is it loud. Had to return. But this may be a common problem air cons.

Strangely enough it only has reviews from this year.... Does that mean this is a new version? I am sure there were reviews left last year also.

Its looks like the previous version I boguht, so maybe this model has some minor changes/improvements.
if this product isn't great could anyone suggest a possible sub £300 alternative. My garden office (15m2) gets hot in the summer and I want to be prepared this year. Did some research in the winter but only really found reviews from the States and half the brands and models aren't available over here. UK reviews seem thin on the ground...
just got this unit and I am wondering if it is faulty or not.
Supposedly the AC function should dry the air but whenever the compressor turns on the cold air coming from the main outlet vent is very humid.

Is this normal?
It does hot and cold read the manuals
