I have used these for years pretty handy as you install them direct to your USB device and they run from that pen drive on any PC you use no seperate installs.

Official description

Convenient

Now you can carry your favorite computer programs along with all of your bookmarks, settings, email and more with you. Use them on any Windows computer. All without leaving any personal data behind.
Open Platform & Open Source

PortableApps.com provides a truly open platform that works with any hardware you like (USB flash drive, iPod, portable hard drive, etc). The entire platform is open source built around an open format that any hardware or software provider can use.
Free

The PortableApps.com Suite and Platform is free. It contains no spyware. There are no advertisements. It isn't a limited or trial version. There is no additional hardware or software to buy. You don't even have to give out your email address. It's 100% free to use, free to copy and free to share.

What I think is better is to install TrueCrypt and then make an encrypted partition on an external drive or laptop and then install your software like email and web browsers into that.

That way if your laptop is lost or stolen the thieves won't easily have access to all your emails or online bank logins, etc

Ive been using portable apps for a while now and im very satisfied at them. This site does not have all the apps available though

try also

pendriveapps.com/
and
portablefreeware.com/for…f=4

I use a lot of mine on the hard drive because they dont install into windows, I know they may take slightly longer to run (firefox for example) but it means I can carry all my utils on a small stick

I've read about these in the past but was a bit sceptic... Seems I might have been missing out!

Cheers poster!
