Portal Knights (Nintendo Switch) Physical Copy £21.85 - Base.com

Found 17th JanEdited by:"jakewarburton"
A pre order of the physical copy at the lowest I've seen it,
free UK postage,
Due for release on 09/02/2018

It costs £24.99 on the eshop so for fewer pennies you get a phyical copy that you can sell if you wish and no download or SD card space required.

A decent looking game, especially at that price. Looks like it has those block building elements so many kids crave.

Damnit, got me excited
I got a switch about a week ago and was going to return because of the price of game and accessories but I have Zelda and I been looking at xenoblade 2 and decided to keep it theres just something magic about it. I also have xbox one x and ps4 pro but loving Zelda great game full of surprises.

I bought both of those and haven't been able to put Zelda down. There's a certain quality and nostalgia with Nintendo games and BOTW is a work of art.

I think it’s because they remember the key fact that games at heart, should just be fun.
Exactly that! They know that real games go beyond the graphics and the specs, they appeal to your sense of fun and wonderment.
Look at Pong and Asteroids, nothing to look at but the hook was there in the playability.
I love that I can play my Switch however I want, on the TV, in my hand on the go. I especially like detaching the controllers and just having them in my hands with my arms just relaxed, proper comfortable.
And BOTW just makes you smile, inadvertently, just a knowing smile.

On the positive side if you buy physical games (especially at HUKD prices) you can often sell them for what you paid for them sometimes a year or more later. I've even turned a profit on a few. I'm a big Playstation fan too, and you're right there is something very special about Zelda.
Painful how much these switch games cost. Especially when I see HUKD posts for the same games on other consoles for much less than I have to pay! Will I have the patience to wait for 2nd hand games to appear on Ebay???

Exactly this,
I'm always trawling Ebay to see if I can find anything that slips under the radar but most preowned Switch games sell for only a couple quid cheaper than New RRP and some people even get a little too excited and bid over RRP

Look at how Switch trade-in prices hold up, though. This is the return on the “Nintendo tax”

You can't compare these, Doom on the other systems was out in 2016, the Switch version is a complete rebuild, technically a new game that came out a few months ago.

There are some great digital games, even the ones that have appeared on other platforms get a new lease of life thanks to the portable approach and many have new features. Stardew Valley and Fast RMX are just 2 examples of cheap but essential Switch games.

Plus, you need Mario Odyssey.

So by your reckoning, Doom VFR (which came out a few weeks after Doom Switch, and was a completely new build) should fetch higher prices?
Ok, how about Puyo Puyo Tetris? Same release date, & the Switch version had a £10 higher RRP:

They are simply fetching higher prices because the Switch is relatively new. It lacks the number of "Must Haves" that other current gen platforms have, so basically all switch games have higher value because if you want to play something on Switch right now, here are your choices.

Doom VFR is a cut down smaller game originally released at a budget price. Puyo Puyo , as you rightly pointed out, had a higher release price so the trade in price reflects this, rather than pointing to Switch having higher trade in as was your original point. The higher RRP was due to carts being more expensive to manufacture.

Unfortunately, there’s not a lot else to compare, then. If we’re splitting hairs, you could look at Horizon: Zero Dawn vs breath of the Wild- both games were released on the same week, and the original retail prices were around £3 apart (HZD was £44.99, BOTW was £47.99). Both are top tier flagship titles, but one now retails for less than half the price of the other.
My point was that although Switch games cost more in their first outlay, unless the game is utter garbage, the carts hold their prices better than any other system.
