Feel like these have flopped, if they hit sub £40 i'll probably pick one up.
In this time of isolation these are great to help keep in touch with those important to you. If you use messenger or WhatsApp for video calling this makes the whole process easier and uses their encryption services so read into that what you want. You also have the facility to turn off the mic and cover the camera. They do only work if the Facebook account holders phone is on the same network so If they're out or their phone dies so does the connection. We got one direct from Facebook for £1 more earlier in the month and so recommend it.

Flopped like a big wet fish. Even if they start giving them away I woudn't compromise my privacy that much.
Hi,I've got two these I bought them on a offer from Amazon a while ago, I paid 78 for two of them.it ok for face timing, but I only use whatapp ,the Alex very limited.dont really use it for much else.i also have a echo 8,which if you can get that on offer £60.00 would be far better as the functionality is far superior.

Because Facebook knowing your online activity isn't enough they now want to watch what you do around your home !

Hard pass and also cold as it seems to be this price everywhere.
Tbh I don't think any one would be interested in seeing me walk around, going to sleep, playing games and pulling my worm every now and then.

I think they’ve already started giving them away to NHS patients.
These are good for Facebook messenger and WhatsApp calls. However, the price is high. I'm not referring to the fact you could have got 2 for this price at Christmas, I'm referring in comparison to Alexa 8, Lenovo 8 or Google smart display, £15-20 cheaper. However, for those using video calls on WhatsApp, these are probably better, but no other advantage at this price. £39 at Christmas was a great price. I'm waiting for their TV smart display to go down in price, but can't see much movement in that direction.

And having Alexa, that brings Skype and Alexa-calling as well, so probably the most versatile video-calling 'assistant' (yes, it isn't as versatile as a mobile...)
I continue to be surprised by how many WhatsApp users are oblivious to the Facebook connection and there is not a lot of love being shown here for Facebook!
Wish I had bought a Portal instead of a Google Hub Max. I just want it for video calls and pretty much everyone either has Facebook messenger or WhatsApp, whereas there are probably about 5 people using Google Duo.

Might flog the Hub Max, replace with regular Google Home speaker and pick up a Portal TV (when back in stock) for family video calls.

Not lots of love here, and was not lots of love when were 2 for this price, despite this, the deal went very hot and lots of people got it. So it seems the price is more important than principle.
I know Facebook had issues and the suggestion is these have been sold, but I do not think this is less safe than using Alexa and Google displays.
Yes, this has Alexa too, so it is quite versatile, however lots of reviews suggest when using 3rd party, the original is better.
I had 4 smart displays at Christmas, otherwise I would have gone for this at that price.
I agree, lots of people praise WhatsApp and they are against Facebook, without having a clue is the same company...

What's the best price you came across the Portal TV, please. I want one, not interested in these, as I do have Google smart displays, but you're right, only a few use Google Duo, this is more suitable for video calls. I can't see a huge benefit of this device for calls, but I can see a benefit with the Portal TV. I used Skype on my TV, when was supported, video calls on th make a difference, on smart displays not that much, a tablet or laptop provides almost the same experience. The best I came across the TV portal was £100, which TBH I think is expensive, I only paid £50 for my Samsung TV camera when I was using it with Skype.

As far as I'm aware they are out of stock everywhere, and have been for a few weeks. If you can find one for £100 that is a good price at the moment, I think RRP is £150 but there were a lot of offers for money off when buying 2.

WhatsApp is owned by Facebook but it is still a secure messaging application with end to end encryption, and currently there are no adverts. So most of the things people hate about Facebook aren't currently a concern with WhatsApp. When they inevitably start dropping ads in, I think people will start to look at alternatives (Telegram/Signal etc).

I think it is a matter of people getting used with certain apps/software, and even with adds, only some will look at alternatives, but majority will stay. I may be wrong, obviously, but not many are open to changes.
These are brilliant. You have physical buttons to turn off the cam and mic too
