You can see why people take their kids out of school, there are never any deals like this in the holidays. :(. Cracking deal though!

I agree totally, however, I must admit that I myself have never taken mine out of school for a holiday and always look for cheap last minute bargains - only been to France a few times with the children but would love to go to Greece/Portugal or Spain. Bit difficult to sort something out this year though as my kitchen is due to be re-done starting on 11th July and I have been told to expect it to take up to 15 working days (but there again there could be a hiccup and it could take longer). Also, we would have to be back for 21st August as my 15 year old teenage son has has to go to hospital for a check-up (seems to have developed 'pigeon chest'), and on the 22nd August my daughter gets her exam results so have to be around after that date - never mind, might be able to sort out something at the last minute, though I think it might be France again!

I went on holiday to France about 3 years ago and we stayed on a caravan park in Biot in the south of France.
We found most stuff, especially eating out incredibly expensive.
Do you find France expensive? Where do you normally go in France?
Edited by: "poisondwarf" 8th Jun 2013

We started off going to Brittany but each year we travel down a bit further - last year we went to the Vendee region. We also stayed on a caravan park which I prefer myself. We were lucky each time as there were 'supermarkets' close by - Super U, Lidl, Le Clerc - we were self-catering. We only ate out a couple of times, mainly at creperies. We went by Ferry and I drove down to the campsites. I would love to go further South though - what was it like in Biot and did you drive or fly there? How did you find out about the caravan park in Biot - was it through a large company, like Siblu or something, or was it a small, privately owned site?

does it work for 4 adults ?

not the right place to ask ..

But I am looking for this kind of holiday the first 2 weeks of September ..Is it too soon to see any bargains yet ?

Hi Stace, link isn't working , found the flights for £65 pp but cannot fin hotel ! Help please as really want to book asap , cheers

Amazing deal Stacey, well done!
The weather will have improved by then. The 13c & cloud at my end of the Algarve at the moment is not normal
Jeez, both sides of the Pennines were far better last week when I visited the Sceptered Isle.

Tip: For beer lovers in Portugal, Aldi sell an 8% 500ml can of St. Omer for 69 cents. It's French, but poured at around 6-8c it's not bad at all. Enjoy

Biot was great, and the site was called 'camping du pylonne' or something like that. If you google it then it will come up. We founfdit using a search engine.

Pebble beach about a 5 min walk from the site but just one stop away on the train was a free sandy beach.
I point out that its free because a lot of the so called public beaches in France are not free to use.

Beer in the bar onsite was over 4 quid a pint and thats about 3 years ago although they did have a happy hour and the beer then was roughly half price.
We got the train down there, used public transport all the way from North Manchester. We did it that way just as a bit of an adventure. Siting in a bar, on a train thats moving in excess of 200mph is quite an experience!.
Much better than the hassle of air travel but no where near as cheap unfortunately.
Here is the route that we used...and the same journey coming back..(in reverse of course)
Metrolink to Manchester Piccadilly
Piccadilly to London Euston.
Euston Station to Kings Cross (walking, about 10 to 15 mins)
Kings cross to Paris (Gare Du Nord...Eurostar)
Paris Underground to Gare du Lyon (i think)
Gare du lyon to Antibes (on the Fast TGV)
Antibes to Biot (just one stop)

The price of food on the campsite was VERY VERY expensive and we eventually found a supermarket one stop away on the train (in the opposite direction from the beach). Take an empty suitcase with wheels on it to the supermarket and get all the beer and food that you might need in one go.

As I said before, eating out was VERY VERY expensive. An ordinary steak and chips was over £50.00 in a none too posh restaurant.
Its expensive because its the south of France.

I'm afraid you'll have to wait until there's a great deal on a calculator before you will know that.

Great deal. I stayed there last year and couldn't fault the hotel. We checked in about 1am and were given food and drinks on arrival. Our double room turned out to be a massive apartment with a huge terrace looking out over the bay. The manager and all the staff were really friendly and if you do go, you must try the "Fire Water" in the bar! There's also two large swimming pools and space was never a problem.

The food was standard all inclusive stuff, but also had lots of fresh local fish. There's also a nice range of small restuarants, bars and shops along the sea front, that are fairly priced. This is great deal for a romantic holiday or family getaway.

Obviously this is during school term so ive got the price with a 2 year … Obviously this is during school term so ive got the price with a 2 year old and a 4 year old.

You are learning about the HUKD trolls I see

Brilliant price, these sort of prices normally available at short notice? We always book for the same place in Spain (San Eloy) well in advance, paid £1800 for 14 nights (AI). I'm tempted to try something a touch cheaper next year, but the kids and the missus love it (as do I to be fair) and am worried that if it goes spectacularily wrong, I'm gonna be in the doghouse big time

Thank you for explaining to me how you did it. We actually live in Exeter, Devon, which is probably why we went by Ferry - first year, Plymouth to Roscoff and then a drive to the holiday park, second and third years, Portsmouth to St Malo and then a drive down.

Sorry, it was supposed to say Poole to St Malo.
