Now that Pipex are owned by Tiscali and using BitTorrent traffic shaping, I decided I'd had enough and wanted to switch to Be. I phoned for my MAC code and was offered 8MB broadband (448KB upload) with unlimited downloads (subject to their "fair use" policy) for £8.99, as long as I agreed to stay with Pipex for a further 12 months.

This didn't tempt me, but if you're currently with Pipex and not considering switching for the next year, it might be worth phoning their cancellations department (0871 222 6366) to see if they'll offer you this deal.

Thanks for the nod, I am have been with Pipex for about eight years and never had a problem with them but may give it a go.

IF you are lucky enough to be on an exchange with Be/o2 equipment installed, why not migrate to o2 broadband Standard - it's £7.50/month for an up to 8Mbps/1.3Mbps package (as long as you have an o2 mobile contract or top up an o2 PAYG phone with £10+ per quarter, so £10.83/m if you never used any of that PAYG phone credit but save £20 or more by signing up by cashback quidco.com etc so £9.16/m net over first year MAXIMUM (and more likely under £6/m net!).

And if you're even luckier and live close to an exchange then you can get upto 16Mbps/1.3Mbps for just £2.50/month more = mega bargain!

See the ThinkBroadband o2 forum at bbs.adslguide.org.uk/pos…=o2

I've had 7 happy months with them and it's a bargain!

8Mbps would be useful for torrents but as pipex reduce the torrent speeds there isn't really that much point in giving people the upgrade.

I'd rather be on unlimited 4Mbps rather than a heavily limited 8Mbps.

Do you think this applies to Nildram also, as I thought they were owned by Pipex?

I had the worst experience with this company perhaps the new owners will have more luck running this company.

The last thing i heard (Im a member of BE) - They watch torrents too....

However im on Usenet
