I bought Lidl's little £7 one three years ago. It's still my Christmas tree! I've repotted once and you've got to water it a few times a week in the summer, but it's at least three times the size of when I bought it, and going strong!

You could also plant it in the ground and cut it down after a year or two, nice big tree on the cheap.

HOWEVER I think these Tesco ones could be difficult to grow because they've been potted for sale, not for growing, the majority of the root system has been cut off. You'd need a much bigger pot to grow a healthy tree of that size.

Thanks will check out lidl, brought one from homebase 2 years ago was about 2 foot but died, was thinking something this size would have a much better chance but maybe not if its roots are damaged.

One thing we found last year when we tried to get the tree back inside for Christmas...within one day there were lots of dying/dead bugs around the tree! These trees can attract larvae which normally hatch in spring but they hatched early due to the higher temperatures inside the house...so think of spraying/checking the tree before you get it back inside...we ended up buying a fake one at the last minute haha

i would like to buy one and let it take over the garden

I'm planning on buying one just for Christmas and then dispose of it. I just find they last better in the house like this rather than a cut one.
