Anyone know how many amps this kicks out? Will it start a diesel engine?

The last one i bought was 17.2 amp which started my transit van ok.

is this really any different from the one that Maplin regularly has for about £20 (and gets panned in almost all the reviews)?

If it's the same as this, and it looks the same.....

900A.

No better than the cheaper ones then :?

I had the Maplin one

maplin.co.uk/Mod…038

it's only 400A compared to the Aldi one

The Maplin one was pants, mine went back when it failed to inflate my tyre sufficiently.

The Aldi power station was £24.99 last Feb 2008. Importing is expensive so price will have increased.

As Shengis said earlier it does look very similar to the Marksman model. Checking out Marksman chargers on Amazon shows only 3 reviews - all of them were one star reviews so that could be worth bearing in mind. However, with a 3 year guarantee I suppose you could always return it if faulty. Does anyone have any experience of returning stuff to Aldi?

Buy this at your peril (imho)..had one from ALDI, it was very dodgy from day one, didn't retain charge despite best efforts, i'm a bit fanatical as to charging batteries, keeping them topped up, it just did not keep going (estimated life 18 months) when you needed it, it struggled (as went flat very quickly)
I see alot of these down at my local tip awaiting disposal!
the back panel on mine broke off straightaway, spilling the accy's around, the worklights are abysmal, its price & lifespan outweigh it's occasional use unless you are going to have this on trickle in your garage from the point of purchase.
Recommend getting a (admittedly 2x the price) modern dinky handsize anylizer charger (mains) we use ours for a variety of vehicles from a little A class merc - big toyota MPV , and big yank tanks from flat.
This would just about start our merc (struggled) as for anything larger no hope!
Sorry to appear so derogatory as a first comment / post, I think things should last or not be manufactured, (ok so a bit of a greeny)

Well worth the money, i bought one like this about two years back from aldi with a two year warranty. The battery started to lose charge after 16 months but it was well used, i took it back with recipt and had a full refund as there were none in stock for a replacement no questions asked.

When you say "well used" what did you use it for? Thanks.

saw a similar item in b+m bargins for 19.99, I didn't check its power, but looks very similar, might be worth checking if you were going to buy one of these

b+m bargins?
