Oh no, no fast charging or NFC! It's a £153 smartphone, I think you need to reign in your expectations people.

I'm looking to buy this phone but never bought from geekbuying only from aliexpress (good experience) & gearbest (bad)

I got my gold one for £219 from laptops direct. My last phone, Honor 5x, developed a fault after 16 months and Amazon simply refunded my money. Don't know how easy it would be dealing with China.

Bought a 64gb version yesterday from Aliexpress for £151

Any links?

Will mi mover app work on this to transfer data from my old note 3?

Shame no NFC for banking apps etc

This link might be of some help although the price is slightly higher....

No fast charging

They do state 4 times that it is 32GB, although the image does show 64GB. I'd have thought buying through paypal would result in a refund if a 32GB version did exist and was sent.

Lloyds bank works, with it being Android One I can't see any problems with all UK banking apps.

All banking apps will work. The NFC is used to pay contactless in shops if your bank supports the feature. I had the feature on my previous phone but never used it or the NFC in the 3 years I had it so decided I didn't really need it.

I think the post replied to was "online banking'' query.
But no NFC, I use contactless card. Hopefully the next Mi A1 with have NFC, not a deal breaker for me as it only represents a very small % of everyday use.

This model has very high head SAR value. Can be harmful when you sleep with phone close to head or use phone while charging.

Do people really sleep with their phones close to their heads? That's sad

thanks for pointing this out as i wasn't aware, after a quick look its turns out that this puts out twice the amount of head radiation (under full power) compared to the redmi note 4.

Yes thank you for pointing out the 'SAR'. I often sleep with my phone within a few feet of my head, I pop it in charge while I sleep.

I will now change my habit but from a Google search the Mi A1 is within exceptable safety standards, also it's not far off the iPhone 8

Nevertheless, again thanks for making Mi A1 owners / new to be owners aware of this.

Cheers

Does anyone have experience of GPS on this model ?

Although I haven't ordered one myself, there's a guide on the Xiaomi subreddit regarding recommended places to buy from (Here). Geekbuying is on the 'avoid' list, so might be worth doing some research before buying... Anyone got any experience with Geekbuying?

Hi
I wanted to ask which is better... mi A1 or mi 5X?

I'm too used it now, I would see it as a step back... I don't just use it for payments though, also for syncing with my car's head unit, Bluetooth headphones and speakers - NFC has lots of applications

The Mi A1 for UK, the Mi 5X is the same phone but for the Chinese market, just a different name, and different OS. Pure Android v MiUI

Mi 5x runs on mi ui while mi A1 runs stock android and promised to have updates for two years I believe

Last night I put the phone in the basket and after discounts it was like 145 pounds but still didn't buy it. I think the main feature of the phone is stock android and the updates. Apart from that the redmi note 4 would do as well because it has got a bigger battery which is a plus plus

The camara seems to get a good write-up, except low light and OIS. From my experience, must have steady hand, photos are excellent.

My Mi A1 after two weeks (2 security updates) seems to have improved battery wise, it's either the updates or my new method of charging
I don't use the included charger now, I have adapters - USB-C / micro USB from Amazon that 'trickle charges' this seems to have improved battery from 6hrs SOT to nearly 8hrs SOT.

I thought we were talking about NFC, not Bluetooth.

Agreed NFC is primary to do with paying for your groceries in Tesco sub £30, what on earth has linking to Bluetooth headsets got to do with it.

Even though it may not support fast charge, forums online suggest 0-100% charge takes about 1 hour 40 minutes. That doesn't seem too bad as my Nexus 6P is probably about the same.

Also different network frequencies ,and data partitions ( which i believe is why the software isn't interchangeable between devices )

Does anyone know if you'd need to pay import duty on top of the listed price?

You could get one of those card cases and pretend!
