agreed, they are threatened by a superior format, have to keep their mind at ease by voting it cold so no1 buys it. Hd-dvd kicks ass, if i had spare cash(loads on paypal not on me xD) i would buy a hd-dvd for £26 @pcworld for 360 plug into pc and buy some hd-dvd's if you think about it, the old br players(only support 1.1) so in theory these will have the same life span xD.

Voted hot.

If you look at other Australian dvd sites eg www.dvdcrave.com they tend to have similar dates so it may be down to the distributor.......

the 'old blu-ray' units which can only do 1.1 will still play films released in the future, they just wont be able to do additional online content that people will be adding in the future.

no more HD DVD's are being released from now on...

u know that the quality of those rips doesnt compare to the actual HD disc.

HD DVD & Blu-ray rips are just above DVD disc quality IMO.
Just think about it, HD Rips have a of bitrate of about 9,500kbs - the HD discs have upto 30,000/40,000kbs

sure your getting the movie for more or less free, but if its HD your after, you cant really beat the actual HD disc [we'll, not just yet] ;-)

Wow i thought this was already out. I watched this on HD-DVD on monday! I got this on ebay for £7.50 when i was looking for bargains after buying an EP30 for £80 when the fire sale started.

I've already got a PS3 and a good few blu-rays but from what i have seen so far HD-DVD is a better picture and the discs are more interactive. The picture in picture stuff on this movie is good.

One annoying thing though. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes before you get to the film with all the unskippable junk!

I ordered the trilogy instead for 17 pounds!

no affence but hd-dvd is superiour, its just that sony was trying to make br win(and it worked) because microsoft were lazy *******s this time. The way i see it, br should of been just for storage and hd-dvd for films :P

Good deal but it may well be even cheaper in this country soon. Its only a matter of time before the likes of Play.com start clearing their stock. Still could always wait another year and it will b out on Blu-Ray for £20.

c'mon, every side by side test shows the 2 formats to be as good as identical in terms of quality.
The industry suffers from the confusion of 2 competing formats, so as soon as the pendulum swung, everybody has jumped ship.

I think the discs are going to plummet in price after they have sold off all the hardware first. All the retailers will want to clear HD DVD off the shelves (and start pushing blu ray) so wait a little longer if you already have HD DVD hardware. These discs are going to get plenty cheaper yet...

unfortunately zero new content is going to arrive, so sooner or later all the people who get a taste for high def content will *have* to switch to blu ray.

Has Blu Ray not won the war of next gen dvd formating ?I thought it had and this would explain the cheap price.shame i herd HD dvd was infact better

Last few blu ray films I checked didn't peak above 25mb/s bitrate, most hover around the 15-20mb/s rate.
The rips you talk about can have bit rates ranging from low 5mb/s up to 15mb/s. The important thing to remember is the codec used in these rips is actually far more efficient then the two used in legitimate copies, therefore the difference is quite negligible but that depends on how well the originals were ripped.

good for those who got the HD players before blueray took over - but now they're been phased out everyone'll be getting rid of them

still voted hot thought

Why will everyone be getting rid of their HD-DVD players? They will still work and play standard DVD's. I've got a computer with a HD DVD Disc Drive I'm not going to go and change it to a Blu-Ray one.

I am confused. You are saying that a year's membership of Rapidshare allows you to download legal HD-DVD content? Now that is a Hot Deal!

If this is like the UK version it'll only have a Dolby Digital Plus soundtrack. If you have the sound system to take advantage I would recommend getting the US version which has a TrueHD soundtrack which is far superior in my opinion.

Myth.if you think about it, the old br players(only support 1.1) so in theory these will have the same life span xD.

Fact: 1.1 blu ray players will be able to play the movie itself but may not be able to access some of the extras.

So no, no they will not have the same lifespan as you will be able to watch future releases on the blu-ray player, which we know will not be the case for the loser of the format war.
