Simple really - just go to the website and pre-order the 500GB model today. There is also a deal for £5 off the 12GB flash model.

The Super Slim is out on September 28th. Selling my old Slim today and getting one pre-ordered.

UPDATE: Official blog entry whcih contains details regarding recommended pricing for retailers:

Comparing those prices to the Zavvi price would suggest Zavvi are offering a bargain :-) thanks

so the 12 gb model £180 and the 500 is £214, way to go Sony, Jesus do they even think before they release stuff.
£239.99 with Fifa 13
You'll find the 500GB model to normally be more expensive than £214.99 me old mucka which is why this is such a good deal personally I'm going for a 12GB model but considering how little the price difference is between the 2, and how much discount Zavvi has applied I'd consider this a deal :-)
with the introduction of cloud saving on the PS3 there isnt such a need for huge hard drives however I am sure there are people who would put huge amounts of music on it

Still a good price though!

You're clearly not signed up for PS+ then or a user of PlayTV, because I have a 750GB drive in my PS3 and about 100GB free.

Regarding this deal, it's not actually £35 off anything, Sony have stated that there are no RRP in the UK and that retailers will make their own pricing.

No UK price was given for the new PS3, Sony claiming it will be 'down to … No UK price was given for the new PS3, Sony claiming it will be 'down to retailers' - an increasingly common practice these days - but the PS EU blog does state that the EU price will be for the 12GB flash memory model and for the 500GB model. Both will be bundled with FIFA 13.

I wouldn't even buy a calculator these days if it only had 12GB - I presumed they had missed a zero off and still thought it was a bit stingy.
Heeeeeat from me. But i already have 3 ps3's at my disposal.
So wait, it's a little thinner, a little lighter and slightly bigger hard-drive?

Whoopdidoo. Why sell your current one and 'upgrade'? What does the size and weight really matter when it's sat on the floor/a shelf/TV cabinet? The gaming experience is no different. And if 320GB really isn't enough for you (?!) then just switch the hard-drive.

Seems like you won't get all that much life out of this before the PS4 arrives anyway (TBA June 2013).
Hot compared to other prices but i'd be surprised if the price doesn't drop quite a bit before xmas, especially with the launch of the WiiU.
whats the power consumption compared the old one

The 500GB will launch as a bundle with FIFA 13 for around €299.99, with the 12GB priced around €229.99 standalone

think there trying to steal some of the wii u thunder?
At Amazon you can get the 320GB Slim with an extra controller and PlayStation Move starter pack for £208!

It's a smaller console yes, and I quite like the overall design but the sliding cover disc loading mechanism is cheap and nasty.

190w as opposed to 200w! The new one will pay for itself in about 20 years if you're a long term investor!

I think the idea is that you plug an external drive (which you probably already have) in to it
yes problem with a external hard drive is your stuck with fat32 so cant have any files larger than 4gig. no such a huge problem but better of paying the extra and getting 500 so you can download some games if you ps+

Erm, it's not hard to convert Euros to Pounds!
It's about 240 quid give or take converted for the 500GB model, meaning still a saving of 25 pounds if you go by that price instead of a UK specific price. Still a good deal!
Unboxing and that horrible disc tray in all its glory:

I'm amazed, 6 years on and still no £150 rrp.
not sure if i like the new one, think i'll just get the slim for the kids room.

I'm not saying it's a good deal, but unless Zavvi intend on putting the prices up there isn't a saving made directly here as it's all dependant on how much they intended on charging in the first place. Given they can charge whatever they feel like they could have said you were saving £200 when in reality no one knows what the price places will eventually be putting these out at is.

It's baffling. I mean, I've got one, thanks to an offer and a shed load of nectar points but if you wait for the right deal, you can often pick up an Xbox 360 4gig for £99.

The PS3 is still bafflingly expensive imho.

You're correct, there's no 'set in stone' RRP in the UK, regardless of what conversions the other guy wants to do. As for the rest, time will tell.

Personally I think it looks cheap and hate the new (old) loading system. I'll pass on this.

I guess Sony saw how well MS have done with the 4GB console they released and thought, eh, why not.
The parts of this PS3 super silm must be so cheap. I remember going from the original PS3 to the Slim PS3 and it was much slower.
Hopefully I will be able to pickup one of the old slims on ebay for a reasonable second hand price.

Yeah because I like having external units floating round my PS3... The 4GB Xbox 360 even has the hard drive slot meaning you can extend it, bad move Sony.

It's actually a 16GB Flash memory chip on the motherboard with 12GB accessible. I believe that to increase storage (for PSN games) you have to purchase an official 250GB Sony external drive. Things like music and films that you already own should be fine with a standard USB drive.

Awful design. I actually feel like buying up a current Slim model before they're all gone.... reminds me of the 60GB days!
With that crappy disc tray and a 12GB model, they are really trying to cut every penny off production cost.

They are positioning themselves to be able to cut the price when the Wiu launches and still make a profit.

But at these prices, they are not passing those production cost savings on to the consumer yet. I guarantee they will take another £50 off these prices within 6 months.
Good for a new user, but not as an upgrade.

"Selling my old Slim today and getting one pre-ordered. " Lols, more money than sense eh?
if it aint broken dont fix it, no point in buying this since my phat ps3 is still going strong.
Think I'll stick with my slim model. That corrugated plastic on the top looks so cheap and tacky.

Will give heat though as this looks to be a deal for those that want it.
First time I've seen this new version. I don't get it? Why have Sony bothered to shrink it down a little more, make it cheaper to manufacturer and sell at a similar price?

This really should be cheaper or on par with XBox prices now, like MS did with the 4Gb slim?
I always thought it was the lenses that were expensive, but I just bought a BluRay laser assembly for £10 delivered from China to fix an old fat PS3 so that isn't the reason.

All very strange.
