The S2 was a favourite with some people, this looks decent at the price point for a phone with NFC etc.

This is pre order so expect a wait, maybe stock issues, possible customs, no warranty and no Cs.

Foxconn own ⅔ of sharp. Basically the only bit that is Sharp is the LCD Panel. The rest is Foxconn.

Relatively stock, and virtually non existent
Does it work in the UK, Band 20 does not seem to be mentioned?

No band 29,sorry forgot to add to op. It will still work on most networks.

Band 20 is not supported but will work in the UK just no 4g with O2 and their piggybacks like tesco and Giff Gaff and certain areas with some other networks that use band 20 as a secondary frequence

Has 4G TD LTE band 40 or B40 so will definitely work on O2.

A phone like this at this price point should appeal to many people though unfortunately most people will stick to the market leaders and pay a premium for that privilege.

This is true, it dumbfounds me how the moto g6 got all the accolades last year as the budget king, and yet it was the year of the redmi note 5, mi a2 lite and honor 8x. Moto must pay the reviewers.

That's a new one on me i got a xiaomi Mi 6 on O2 no band 20 support so it is using HSPA+ it supports TDD LTE band 40 but no 4g have checked with LTE Discovery app and only HSPA+ where did you get that info about O2 using band 40 for 4g give us link please

You will still get 4g (LTE) on o2 with bands 1 and 3 and in selected areas (as Sam points out) band 40 (which is massively underused) so speeds will be good.
The loss is where band 1 and 3 signal is weak and you go into a building. This is where band 20 will help out.

Its not really a deal breaker even if you are on o2 IMO.

It's only in selected places at the moment. Parts of London, Leeds , Nottingham.

I agree it is no deal breaker i have had my MI 6 for just about 2 years now and HSPA+ is very quick on the internet way way faster than 3g on speedtest app i get a ping of 66ms and download of 9.65 Mbps and upload of 5 Mbps and that's indoors so having no b20 or 4g as never been a problem for me. My previous phone also no band 20 redmi note 3 China version and again never a problem so like you say no deal breaker
I owned Aquos S2, microphone became after few months, don't expect any update on the future. IMO, better get a well-known Chinese brand such as Xiaomi or Huawei.

I think skipping band 20 is false economy these days. Especially with people going into meltdown over the latest flagships not having 5G support, imagine not even having 4G or worse still, O2 EDGE.

I'm very happy with my Redmi Note 5, but am afraid to upgrade to Miui 10 because of the online scare stories about battery life etc.

Sharp actually made the best phones on the market at one point. Gx10, Gx20 and Gx30.

Tut tut - GPRS is a data carrier, don't you mean GSM for voice! Reminds me of when someone said 'three inches and about 1cm off the top', nearly had an anurism

I'm typing of my Sharp Aquos S2. Really great phone for what I paid and their OS is very close to stock Android. NFC, great camera, only issue is lack of B20 which I've had issues with my phone calls not connecting where I live. Reception is terrible anyway here!
It's worth noting, that if a chinese ROM is installed on the phone (billingual English - Chinese), then there is no Google Play certification. Even if the retailer has flashed/installed Google Play store, being able to install apps throught it, it doesn't mean the device is Google Play certified. This means that the Google Pay app cannot utilize NFC. You could use NFC (as far ar contactless payments are concerned) only with banking apps that support it and afaik only Barclays has an in-app NFC solution.
Another workaround would be flashing Magisk and masking the lack of Google Play certification, but this requires that the device is bootleader unlocked(-able) and there is a custom recovery (TWRP) developed for this specific device.
So if NFC payments via Google Pay is your top priority make sure the ROM of this phone is Global AND that the device is Google Play certified.
Can those that own the S2 verify that their device is Google Play certified and can FULLY use Google Pay for NFC payments?

EDIT: By the BangGood listing, it is definitely a Global version with a Global multi-language ROM, so chances are that it is Google Play certified. It isn't 100% though, users of S2 should confirm this.

The camera was the strong point of S2, and it seems to be the case with S3 as well. f1.75 aperture, dual pixel PDAF , and 1.4micro-m pixels is not a photography feature set you can easily find in a £300 midranger, yet alone on a £110 phone.
If only the SoC was SD636! The SD630 relies on weak Cortex A-53 cores, not to mention it's the same SoC in last year's S2. Sufficient for 90% of users out there, but the added oomph from the Kryo 260 big cores is easily felt and always welcome.

Lack of FDD- LTE Band 20 (800 MHz) is a bummer

Are we positive it doesn't have B20?

AliExpress have got it available immediately for £113 incl. delivery (with coupon 'aliexpress19215' bringing it down to possibly £109) and it states B20 in the specs. Hmmm...
