 thanks one ordered

The amazon.com snow white blu ray was $9.99 pre order before that one came out

£2 more on HMV and you can get an exclusive snow white film cell

I don't get it... if you get the blu-ray, why would you need the dvd?

They actually state why they include the dvd too. Disney want people who maybe want to invest in a blu ray player in the future to be able to buy the film on blu ray, and still at the present time be able to watch the film on dvd. It is quite smart, and Im hoping to get a blu ray player in a few months, so dont want to keep buying normal dvds, and If i bought this now I wouldnt be able to watch the film for a while. Now I can.

It's perfect. Can watch the movie at home on a large screen projector in hd and the little one can still watch it in her room or in the car.

How is the Blu Ray quality given that the original is in such low density?

Can you tell the difference between upscaled DVD and Blu Ray on movies this old?

Price is £16.99 for me as I've used the voucher code before, so voted cold on that basis.

Can't put it as a price with a voucher not everyone can use.

why would you assume an older film can't benefit from blu ray? scanned film can have a resolution way higher than SD DVD. It is really down to how well the print has been restored, but going by other Disney releases this should be excellent - ]Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Blu Ray review. Some older films can look pretty shoddy though if the distributor does a lazy release, but that goes for some more recent releases as well.

ooooookay, but it IS £14.99 if you hadn't used the voucher on something else!

£15 for a 72 year old film that has been released on numerous iterations and thus this edition is unlikely to be the last by any means.

A bargain or a rationale for piracy? Go figure:p

Bit harsh voting cold on that basis isn't it!?

I think it is a good deal, just because you have used the code before doesn't mean that the deal is cold.

Why does the age of the movie matter? Someone made this arguement with me with Wizard of Oz and Citizen Kane that they shouldn't be so expensive because they're old, but they were and always will be way better than the crap new release they were buying on bluray.

Whats all the fuss! this is an absolute classic film, magical, imaginative and the first of its kind! 70 years on and children (of all ages) still love it.
Buy it or dont buy it , its up to you !
Im voting hot and have ordered, and am looking forward to sitting down with my kids to enjoy it all over again but in blu ray!

:gift::santa:Hot from me. The sprogs will love it at crimbo:stocking:

muchas gracias ordered for a Christmas present.

Well the fuss is all about ripping off the consumer. Thus the consumer seeks alternative distribution channels and the studios put in place measures such as region coding and copy protection to stop this, which are real inconveniences to the ordinary, honest consumer.

If no-one bought at these prices then the prices will fall. It's not a cost to the studios, it's profit margins.

If they weren't so greedy then we'd all be better off.

hmm, regardless, the retailer is likely only making a pound per one if that - you have to remember the price sold out covers several costs, advertisement, wholesalers profit, retailer profit etc etc not just that of originally creating the film or that of printing the actual disc..

Retailer margins are an awful lot higher than you think - 33% is a benchmark with overrides and marketing contributions to follow. The disc production and distribution costs are less than 10% of retail.

There is slack everywhere that the punter pays for - if the punter is stupid enough that is!:p

Can you substantiate your claims? Just because people sell e-books on ebay claiming "wholesale - 80% off retail prices", does not mean this is the norm, nor is it possible in most markets. I suppose cheapskate is a rather decent username for you.

Now, now, just because you are a shelf stacker at Tescos it doesn't mean you have insight into how it all works! I bet I've worked closer to more wholesalers than you ever will!
