Free MiBand 3 on offer with that order at the moment
I think the Lite version could be the biggest seller of the 2 - has things that the full fat version doesn't; headphone jack, dedicated SD card etc. Going to be interesting watching this develop....

PS I get the view regarding the SD625 SOC being a bit long in the tooth now but it's still a very good/battery efficient SOC for everyday tasks and I'm suspecting that Xiaomi got them on a deal due to the fact they must have ordered a billion of the bloody things!

Let's get behind @Des-picable and BOYCOTT EGobalcentral UK, until he gets his money back. Let's give them 5 days and a good will gesture included in FULL REFUND.

Nice price for a notch phone, the sign of things to come no doubt.

Sounds OK...

While the SD 625 was/is a good power efficient processor, it is getting a little long in the tooth now. My Redmi Note 4X had this last year, when I got it in March 2017.

Also the price I paid back then was about £20 cheaper too!

EGobalcentral UK are selling the 'elder brother' version for £165.99, launching tomorrow Madrid, Spain

However after reading this trustpilot review I would not recommend dealing with them:

I reckon eglobal will have this for closer to £130 at launch.

Neither retailer is going to win a customer support award
I would advise to spend a little more for the 64GB variant. I got a 32GB phone, and WhatsApp consumes so much storage!

Only takes up 75mb on my phone...

If you get sent lots of photos and videos, this is likely the cause for WhatsApp taking up so much space. You would be best to download the photos and videos directly to the phone and that way are backed up to your memory card or can back up to the cloud.

Also once you have saved the content you want to keep. Delete long message chains and will speed up WhatsApp and save space on phone.

The more reason I don't use WhatsApp like I really have to join the bandwagon to fit in. This also applies to other big apps with their extra feature updates. Security updates fine but fancy shiny bell whistle doodahs, really? Too bloated for a messaging app even though we have 16/32/64gb phones.

Will wait till they bring out a lite version or mates can just text me if it's that really important than sending me useless clogging up my phone.
Is there NFC on global version ?

If Whatsapp is too bloated, what other messaging apps do you consider using instead for sending images and videos?
Is the Note 5 4gb/64gb not better at this price point? Faster/newer processor, well reviewed camera...
main benefit here seems to be the mifit band
bellboys 64gb/4gb aliexpress deal is otherwise slightly more for the better spec
neither is immune to customs so a gamble

Worth noting that Lineage OS 15.1 is officially available for the Redmi Note 5 too, for a near stock android Oreo experience with updates.

It is going to be a great bargain phone, I am going to buy one as my spare phone, nice big battery, dual sim, notch screen...nice bit of kit, I will bite at £120 ish delivered ideally with no customs duties...hopefully eglobal will be able to do the right kind of deal.

Support goes on for a long time usually, my old S4 is still receiving security updates and there's an unofficial Oreo 8.1 build which I'm trying for fun at the mo.

Definitely do your research first, to avoid any problems, and possibly wait a few weeks for the bugs to be ironed out (it only released a week or so ago for the Note 5).

Wang Xiang, the senior VP responsible for Xiaomi’s international business, sales, marketing, and legal and IP strategy, previously said to The Verge that the company has “many, many customers in Spain, the UK, Germany, and Italy,” and that “we want to make Spain successful first. And then we can think of other markets and countries. We want to learn from the customers about the taste of European people.”

Sounds good, hopefully they will fill European warehouses full of these phones at bargain prices I think I will be making the A2 lite my first notch phone.

Hi
It's the World wide launch today.
Xiaomi have a store in Madrid and Barcelona
Cheers!
Pricing seems okay for the European market ,makes the current offer on the page with the free watch look very good
Is gearbest shipping often subject to the dreaded customs charges ?

Yes this is a good deal the euro price is 179 euro = about £160 so as long as it is not caught for customs with the free Mi band 3 a cracking price. As far as customs go when i have used the priority line shipping i have never had to pay customs but last time i bought off gearbest was around last xmas perhaps someone else will have a more up to date experience. Not very impressed with the A2 prices of 249 euro = £222, 279 euro = £250 and 349euro = £312 These prices of course would be duty free from a euro country and probably from Mi stores or Mi.com France, Spain, Italy but they will not ship to UK, so best chance would be Amazon in those countries but there could be seller mark up

I think via Spain they do partner direct with Amazon,so the price would be RRP or less, small shipping charge ideally used with a Clarity type visa card.

The good thing about the deal listed here, if lucky with no custom charges, you could get 4 % quidco offer + sell the band for around £29.99 on eBay , that could make the phone a very nice deal at around £113, that would make it the ideal cheap 2nd phone price for me with a lot of mid range features.
Edited by: "Just.Wondering" 24th Jul
I have ordered one the Mi band 3 free as part of the deal I thought was a good offer, if sold it would cover my customs charge.

But if no customs charge, I will still sell to make the phone cheaper
Having smashed my iphone 6+ screen, I got a xiaomi redmi 5 plus from amazon @ £164 last week, brilliant phone 4GB / 64 GB, doubt I will be going back to iOS any time soon.

Well it is a change, I've got a oneplus 5 and a 5T at the moment and I fancied a notch phone for a change, but unless they can put the ear piece into a perfiratoed type glass and the mic , the notch is as close as we weill get to a full screen.

At this kind of price it is a why not.

edit: I'd just wait for a while, it should be on other sites too, like GearBest, that's 100x more reliable than this dodgy company.

The Lite is effectively the Mi A1 with this year's tall screen and notch.

Oh, and 3GB/32GB at the same price as the A1's 4GB/64GB model. If a normal 16:9 screen isn't a big deal to you, buy the A1. The SoC and most internal gubbins are the same.

Edited to add: Gearbest are actually pretty expensive for the A1. It can be had cheaper elsewhere.
