I avoid paying Sony for content where possible ever since they installed a root kit on my PC via a music CD and because of their numerous similar screw the consumer tactics such as using proprietary memory sticks in all their products...

Did it ever occur to you that one of the reasons that Sony has developed a proprietary memory card for the Vita is to attempt to prevent people like you for downloading content for free that has cost millions to develop, threatening future games development?

Right. So your tactic is to get back at them is by stealing? Makes sense. I think the word 'scum' still applies regardless.
You can do whatever you want in your own time, but don't come here acting all superior when all you are doing is breaching copyright laws and stealing from others.

Theft is DEPRIVING someone of their property, whilst Copyright … Theft is DEPRIVING someone of their property, whilst Copyright Infringment is the unauthorised USE of something - big difference.Yours is a common misconception - which the Copyright Cartels have made much effort to perpetuate - but it certainly is a misconception - both legally and otherwise.

I know you've had quite the bashing already, and I am not innocent of all piracy ever, but why are you bothering? You're trying to justify a behaviour which, whilst not realistically prosecutable, is at least highly morally dubious.

I used to pirate PC games a lot when I was younger, but mainly because they were expensive and I couldn't have played all the great games out there on pocket money alone. Things like Steam and PS+ have changed that. Minor qualms with Sony's bloatware and proprietary manufacturing practices (though your point about them all being proprietary is inaccurate - I have a Sony DSLR which takes SD cards) are just sand in people's eyes. You just don't want to pay for things if you don't have to, and I get that. But you claim to have a decent income, is it really worth it? It's not necessarily an expensive hobby. Just keep it to yourself and occasionally reflect on whether what you're doing is 'right' and whether doing the 'right' thing is important to you.

You won't make any friends by gloating about what many people see as theft. But hey, maybe you're a sociopath and feed on that kind of stuff.

Is someone here trying to make a case for (at "worst") Copyright Infringement being "ok". Essentially YOU are the person sucking the lifeblood out of the industry that provides a hobby that I like.

These people make a commodity, that commodity is a game. If you want to play it, you pay for it. There is nothing, NOTHING you can say to justify your actions, no root kit strawman to hold on to. There is no way to come out of this argument looking good.

  14. dennett316's avatar
Because of gits like richto and his pathetic justification for downloading free games, the rest of us get hit with more and more restrictive DRM and anti-consumer practices. Before you rush to defend him, have a think about what he and his entitled and spoiled ilk are doing to the games industry as whole.
Even if you don't think that piracy is a big deal on consoles - it's a minority who actively partake - it provides those in charge with the scapegoat necessary to screw the rest of us over....and you end up with the likes of the Xbox One.

Have a problem with Sony due to rootkits or whatever other sad little reason you want to drum up? That's neat, don't buy their products or games then...you don't get licence to download them for free because you claim you wouldn't have bought them in the first place. If you weren't pirating the game, you'd have had no option BUT to buy said game...the only reason you claim you weren't going to buy the game anyway is precisely BECAUSE you were going to pirate it. Your argument falls flat due to basic logic.

I love how the vita has had about 3 or 4 price drops since launch but the memory cards have stuck at £50+ when a 32gb SD card will cost you less than £15 so it can't cost more than £3 or £4 to manufacture a card the mark up is insanely high.

Part of me understands what you mean, despite promises of home console quality offerings, I dont think the Vita has quite hit the mark yet, and a few more titles would be welcome, however, if you look at the top 25 metacritic titles, there are plenty there to justify the purchase of the console (below), plus, for me it is the most enjoyable way to play old PS1 classics such as the final fantasy games amongst others...

I think a lot of people are missing the point, particularly the pedants … I think a lot of people are missing the point, particularly the pedants who are arguing "it isn't theft". It's still against the law and does have an impact on the industry's profits.I strongly disagree that each illegal download equates to a lost sale but you can't say there is no impact, and that's enough.

I disagree with this...each download IS a lost sale as there's no other way to get the games unless they become part of a subscription service like PS+ or eventually years later enter the public domain.
Pirates like to say "I wouldn't have bought it anyway", but the only reason they say that is because they knew they were going to be pirating the thing. There are tons of games I don't want to play, and tons of movies I don't want to watch....so I don't buy them and I don't download them. Why would I download something I don't want to watch/play?
They then try to justify by claiming they "wanted to see what it was like...why should I take the risk of buying rubbish?". Play demos, read reviews, check out videos of gameplay etc. like everybody else does...what makes a pirate so special that they feel they can download games and crack them? And how many of those games do they then play to completion, or simply keep on their hard drive without deleting? It's a load of nonsense in order to justify their actions...it's actually insulting that they think anyone should swallow their half-baked reasons.

Always interesting coming across these deals, especially when it gets heated from certain comments.
    First of all, hot deal.
Secondly, your own opinion on certain comments of what is legal / illegal will not be changed by simply arguing a point. The people who don't pay for the games will continue to do so. Even if an argument is well made there will not be a moment when the person thinks "you know what, I'm wrong. I'm never doing that again". Also some of the claims on here regarding money made, tax avoidance etc, you're either trolling or very very stupid.
That's my opinion and no amount of argument will change it.
