Predator was shot using Arriflex 35-III and Panavision Panaflex Gold cameras on 35mm film and has recently been scanned at 4K resolution which has been used here for this Ultra HD Blu-ray release. The disc presents a native 4K 3840 x 2160p resolution image in the widescreen 1.85 aspect ratio, and uses 10-bit video depth, a Wider Colour Gamut (WCG), High Dynamic Range, and is encoded using the HEVC (H.265) codec for HDR10.

All you need to know really. Thanks @SFP_NooDLe

There was of the Blu ray, which is what he'll be referring to no doubt.

I watched it on my big screen projector but I had to turn it off due to the ridiculous amount of grain (I put the 3D version on instead).
Watched this just last night. Although grainy, I find this adds to the charm of it. Excellent picture quality otherwise with tons of detail now resolved that was masked in other versions. Colours pop while still looking natural - did a comparison of a few scenes after watching the whole film with the included Blu Ray and its a noticeable update in all ways but sound.
The grain is meant to be there, do some reading up it’s not a fault as people seem to suggest. It’s the way it was meant to be.

Never said it was a fault. Simply that a lot of people don't like grain in 4k discs.
Get to the cho..
Oh nvm
Superb Film this, Print is as good as you’ll get for this Movie, i have the Original Bluray with the correct levels of Grain and This 4K Version Returns to form! And Surpassas the 10 year old Bluray with this being the Definitive home video version, Destroying the newer, Wax version to boot!!
Detail, Wider Colour Gamut, No Attempt to Scrub or remove Grain from the print, HDR pass that really improves on the Ageing Bluray.
This Film should be in Every Action/Arnie Fans 4K Collection ASAP
They Dont make’em like this anymore!
Tested on 65” LG C8/Panasonic Ub820

Stick Around!!

nice one another one to add to my retro movie collection
Ive seen the 4k version and it was very grainy. I wasn't impressed.
4k grain (even if it's "meant to be there") seems pointless when you're looking for a substantial improvement in image quality. I don't want to pay extra for 4k grain.

Exactly. You wouldn't deliberately force your TV to be slightly out of tune to add fuzzy static to the image so why would you want it on your films? It's madness!!!

Thats how movies look that have been shot on Film, if they try to remove Film Grain (DNR) it scrubs away the Natural fine Detail, just view the new Bluray of Predator, it looks a joke, like it was shot on Digital video, faces looking like wax.
Predator in 4k isnt too grainy at all, if your screen is set up properly.

Yep, I'd prefer it to be grainy than overly smoothed like the T2 4k is.

Yeah T2 has been filtered and looks worse, also Different coloring doesnt really help also.
