Which i assume means they spotted their mistake....

Bought. Even if it is out of stock.
Don't even know if I want to keep the VR- could probably flog it for a couple hundred. £850 lappy for these specs?
Yes please!

Good job, OP- would've missed this one

Is there a 15" version of this?

Doh! That's a shame. Sorry

Which is the best of the lowest price laptops there? the ones around £1000-£1100?

And separately, (please answer the above question anyway), is it worth stepping up a couple of hundred to the next level?

That's a bit like what's the best car- depends on your purpose.
On top of that, the same model can have multiple configurations so it's more down to the components than the manufacturer.

I've genuinely been trying to buy a lappy for video editing/gaming for about 18 months with a budget that's expanded and contracted the more I learn.

By and large, it seems that above £1000, you enter the realm of specifics, where the consumer really gives a hoot about ms lag, shaders and pixel perfection; essentially owning a fancy car, still using the analogy.

To them, every bit of power is going somewhere and they know where, but if you'd rather play a game as opposed to playing the optimum version of that game, you may be better off sticking around the mark.

Can't speak for you, though- depending on your needs, work out what the best configuration of the components is. Could well be talking out my posterior.

I went the 1070. It's the desktop grade GPU as well as the 120Hz screen. Add to that about driving the VR (if you want to keep it). Then I'd say the step up is needed.

I know some people have queried the quality of MSI, but the brief reviews I looked at, it seems pretty well built.

If your budget can stretch probably the MSI 1070 is worht it. If you don't need Ultra settings or hardcore VR, then the 1060 will be good.

So this comes down to:

Do you want the VR (£300 normally)
Do you want 15 inch or 17 inch
8gb vs 16gb Ram
120hz screen...

I’d say the MSI is the better value deal as you could sell the VR and recoup some money!

if the VR things were easy to flog they wouldn't be giving them away. i doubt most people know what they are. if you are hoping for a quick turnover i wouldn't be so sure.

These are pretty new to market so could be loss leader approach to gain share against vive and oculus.

Either way - getting the headset, you’re effectively getting paid £50 to take it (vs the £1,399 price tag for the laptop alone elsewhere!)

i was looking to spend £800 max but then I saw this and went nuts. just need to hope missus don't work it out.

anyway I tried getting a deal on a PC specialist as I don't need an OS or SSD/HDD, but they wouldn't budge. then saw someones pics of the LCD, on here, they had in theres and I'm glad ive gone for this.

Could always sell for 150-200 now steamVR support is here and be close to your budget. Or, you know, secretly keep it.

What does it mean 1440 res

The mixed reality headset has two screens in it so it says 1440x2 (1440x1440 per eye).
Edited by: "ajpwright" 26th Nov

Been reading some reviews and some are saying the screen isn’t that good.

might see what comes out tomorrow.

im not much of a fan of Acer to be honest. I’m just hoping they’ve improved since the early 00’s

Yes

Bought at 1030 , hesitated between the MSI and this .

It's now currently unavailable, is it likely those who ordered when it was temporarily out of stock are gonna get one?

Unsure but my order shows 'not yet dispatched' for the laptop which normally means it'll get cancelled despite the fact the VR headset is out for delivery today. They've split the costs up seperately weirdly, so the laptop was £805.02 and the VR headset £224.03 (total same price as OP's deal) but I hardly want the VR headset if I don't get the laptop. Grrrr Amazon!

your starting to worry me now.

my headset turned up today. even though amazon said Thursday then Wednesday.

Not good. The HMD box weigh a ton, wonder what's in there!

Just been told through amazon chat that my order will be delivered on 10th January, even though it still shows as out of stock in My Orders!

Headset arrived today, doh!

Im in same boat- ordered it when it was out of stock.

Anyone received the laptop yet ?

Thinking of selling the headset but I don't know if the laptop will add

10th of January that's some slow boat from China.

my guess is we will get either what acer couldn't sell over Christmas or all the returns.

plus by then I would think 8th gen stuff will be more attractive.

maybe we should tweet acer as Zippidy suggested.

as to the weight its mostly the boxes. the actual headset is light as are the controllers. so far it took me most of the night to get Steam VR and Elite Dangerous installed. Steam seem to have buried the VR stuff a bit and its still Beta. then as I had already installed Elite I had to download and install again because Steam VR wouldnt just use the original install .

ive tried a few things and its not bad but the lenses mean you cant look around, as its just a blur. you have to move your head instead.

think:
