i got one of these thinking it would be a bargain...........it lasted a week and that was that.it just froze, nothing would work.it's cheap and nasty.ended up buying a descent one and the difference in the up-scaling is unbelievable.spend the extra and get something good.

well equipped machine for the money

I want a cheap upscaling dvd player, but ^ this doesn't inspire confidence. Has anyone else had one or is there anyother reasonable alternative out there?

Cheers, won't waste time and money on it.

quality up-scaling is worth paying extra for. you won't know the difference unless you see the output side by side.

Running one now........for the money.......JUST BUY IT........plays everything ive thrown at it......and the usb 2.0 input is really fast playing Divx Xvids etc.......My philips which has usb input on our main tv is as slow as fick compared to this.....never regretted buying this machine AT ALL.............

Disclaimer - I don't have this, but I do have a cheap 'n' nasty divx/usb/hdmi-upscaling dvd player, which is pretty much the same spec as this, and have had it for over a year now (I think), and it has been absolutely rock solid. Reliable and a very simple way to watch divx on the telly. If anyone wants a cheap alternative to a media player, its certainly worth a punt - hopefully, the bad experience posted above is a one-off

Don't TVs upscale any video input automatically in order to output at their native resolution?

so can you play avi downloads through this using a card or dongle stick???

The Sumvision one I've heard is alright, around thirty quid online.

yes they do, but if they source isn't upscaled then you get bad picture quality, this way both the DVD and TV do the work.

Yes they do,it just depends which does the better job the TV or the player.I have an Oppo upscaling DVD player and its fantastic. In fact some DVD's don't look much worse than my Blu Ray's on it TBH.Of course there is a difference but in some cases not enough of a difference to warrant spending the extra cash on Blu Rays IMO.But for this kind of money though you can't expect anything amazing and this does seem a decent spec player for the cash.

on my small 22" TFT Monitor ive got FFDSHOW setup to upscale and the quality on decent SD video is very good (not so good if its crap going in)

I cant image though a cheap DVD upscaling would look as good as blu-ray on a larger TV.

ive got a WDTV and thats awesome for HD content and shame its not got any upscaling! but that would double thye price as it would require a 2nd CPU to control that aspect

For those pondering whether or not to go for it id say £27 for this seems a bargain!

Does anyone know if this will play the high resolution BRRip (Blu-Ray rip) Xvid files ??

if you do that its best to format your usb pen drive to 32 kilobytes (allocation unit size).
some divx players - especially cheap ones - will be slow to load, stutter during playback etc if its any smaller

Probabay ok if its a 480p rip. Def not if its 720p.

blimey buy cheap buy twice? who'd a funked it

Most 1080p rips u download will be .mkv files if you want hi-deff viewing go for something like a asus o!play, this will be fine for normal divx stuff though.

unreliable................good if u got money to waste..........lol

I got one of these and my m8 brought one at the same time his breaks up on play back so i got in touch with the company and was told no one reported any problems lol and just gave a link to an update for the firmware.

If you have money to waste buy it.

Theres no way of leaving reviews on that site or i would let people know to stay away.

I reckon the machine is excellent value for money. I've had one for a couple of months & the quality is very reasonable. If you have lots more money to spend then I'm sure there are better players available, but I'm very happy with mine. Especially after the last (expensive) player from LG which turned out to be a POS.

Got one like this and they are naff. as i've said before people pay hundred of pounds on a tv then they stick one of these on the tv :w00t:

Can you play movies, pics and music off an external hard drive e.g. a 1TB drive?
It says media player in the title, so i was just wondering...
