Premium Wii U + Pre-installed Mario Kart 8 @ Tesco - £199 Online

Posted 12th Feb 2016
I've been keeping an eye out for a decent priced Wii U and from what I have seen, this is the lowest price for a new console that is actually in stock.

The price appears to be £229.99 in store as confirmed by a Tesco Service Desk rep and is currently available online at £199.

As it is over £30 it is also free for click and collect delivery.

tempting..... still £200 I shouldn't really spend! arghhhhhhh
The best console this gen IMO. What it 'lacks' in 3rd party filler it more than makes up for in every other department - particularly exclusives. Yes, you may argue the future games release schedule looks a little unsure, BUT, that is to assume you have played every one of its ESSENTIAL games from launch up to this point...retail, Indie, AND Virtual Console.
I agree this is still too expensive for a 3 year old console, but I picked up the Splatoon/Mario Kart Bundle for £239 in January '16 and have not regretted it at all.

It's not just 3rd party games that the Wii U lacks, it's also 1st party quality games. 3DS 'stole' them.
bought a ps4 2 years ago and wii u since a year. i got more games and fun with my wii than my ps4, i dont regret having the ps4 but i fell would be another year or year and half until "good " games are available
The only current generation console worth owning.

PC + Wii U for all your gaming needs. Heat added.

i bought this from tesco direct a year ago and it was this price? i waited for pre christmas sales, boxing day sales, Jan sales, gave up and bought for £199, dont get me wrong i think its a great console, bought so i could play mainly on the gamepad but for a console that has so little support i still find it hard to understand how its still this price?
I thought £199 last year was overpriced?

Because the demand is there and Nintendo didn't flood the market with stock.

Another reason being there is no real incentive to sell them for less and because the console has underperformed as a whole. The RRP has not changed in a long time so it stands to reason that the price distributors and suppliers pay is also still the same as it was back then (or has only dropped a little). So unless they (The retailer NOT Nintendo) choose to sell at very small profit or a loss then the price will stay the same.

Wii U doesn't sell well so they're always the same price.
Don't bother. Use the money on the NX.

Heard from someone in store it may be coming down in price next week

I could give you 12 (minimum) absolute essential Wii U exclusives, and I do mean ESSENTIAL. Not many consoles during their entire shelf-life can boast such a thing. Pair exclusive and essential and I don't see how the Wii U is anything other than success.

I'd be interested in that list. My siblings broke my last wii u so just got it replaced, been missing some haha

I'd also like to know these 12 essential games. I'm interested in the Wii U, but I only like mario kart, Zelda, and mario bros.
Will this be in clubcard boost?

we are all interested in the list of 12 ESSENTIAL Wii U exclusives.
last time I checked there were like 5-6 only.

Pikmin 3, DK:TF, SM3DW, Bayonetta 2, Smash, Mario Kart 8, X, Mario Maker, Splatoon, Wooly World, Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors. I've left WW off the list simply for being available previously - as I have a few more essential titles due to not being purely exclusive to the Wii U. Also, an honourable mention goes out to Fatal Frame.

This is just off the top of my head AND only includes retail. Many, MANY other great games are available via Indie and/or Virtual Console.

I've listed them already. Absolutely NO filler in the 12. I am very particular and only buy polished and essential titles. Oh, my list also forgot Rayman Legends...not an exclusive but arguably (easily) the superior edition.

I would only get mario kart in your list. Not interested in the others.
I would also get mario 3d and mario bros 2d. If Zelda comes out, then I'll get that as well.
I've already got windwaker and twilight princess for the Gamecube so won't double dip there.
So 4 games for the Wii U. Worth paying £200 for? Should I wait for the NX instead? Difficult questions.

ok,but not all these titles are everyones cup of tea,for example Smash Bros,Hyrule Warrior,Mario Maker,Xeno Blade and Splatoon are not for everyone.alot of people just don't like them including me.that's why it's tough to justify paying £200 for this console a this time with almost no upcoming games.(Zelda wii be on NX too)

similar situation here : I like to play both Marios,WindWaker (despite beating it years ago on lovely Gamecube but love that game),DK,Yoshi and Captain Toad..that's just 6 games..I've played and completed Twilight Princess on Wii but didn't enjoy it too much so not interested in remaster..
and Bayonetta I just don't care too much about..finished 1st one and thought it was just ok ..same about Rayman.and new Zelda will be also on NX.
don't think paying £200 for just 6 games is a sane decision.

Why even wait for the NX? If - out of the games I listed - only 4 interest you, seems like you either have no taste and/or no interest in Nintendo doing what it does best. I think either Sony or Microsoft will best quench your thirst for 3rd party filler.

They're still in every list of essential Wii U games though. Arguably, only Xenoblade and Hyrule Warriors are the niche titles. The others? Appeals to a wide range of gamers both young and old.

Sorry but why are you considering all third party games filler? Are exclusives the only games that can be considered good quality? That's total nonsense. Not to mention both PS4 and XB1 have some superb exclusives anyway!

Don't think he meant that disparagingly
If your a single chap living alone, your list of exclusives is gonna differ from that say of a Wii U playing family. For example, when there is a few of you, Wii U Party, Nintendoland, Mario Party 10 all become very good games.

Some say Mario Maker is rubbish, but it needs a lot of patience and requires you to invest time in it initially to be able to get the benefit of all it has to offer. Not everyone is good at or can be bothered to design and build levels. Is a bit like saying Mario Kart is rubbish because driving games are not your favourite genre. Mario Maker is undoubtedly a very good game. If you have a kid, they will never stop playing it either.

So its all objective really, how many "must have" or "essential buy" Wii U games there are? From my point of view I say theres approx 25.

There is a lot of speculation that it will be released around Christmas this year but there should be definite confirmation of this mid-June at E3 (gaming conference)
