As per subject - seems a good deal for just over £100 less than the current price for a new Pixel XL, including a 2 year guarantee from cex. Knowing cex, it will likely arrive in good condition (and I'll be returning my to cex if not). This one's locked to EE (works for me - I use plus.net - or EE say that they can "unlock most devices for £8.99"). You can also get a mint one from cex for £340.

If this isn't as good a deal as I think, let me know - can always return the phone... Looked worth a shot, though! Thanks to slightperil for pointing out the unlock cost.

£9 to unlock from EE if needed

£100 off for a second hand phone doesn't sound very good.

Wouldn't buy mobile phone from cex bought 2 over last few years both ended up getting blocked reported stolen buy previous owner cex very unhelpful had to report to police before I got my money back in both case it took nearly 6 months

£300 for last year's phone in grade B seems expensive.

Any better places to buy secondhand? The XL seems to go for the same money or more on ebay, generally, unless in bad condition...

a chance the battery will be on the way out

Agreed to some degree as its only a maximum of 1 year old. Battery will but much worse after 2 year though.

Same happened to me a few years ago. I bought a phone from Woking branch and by the time I'd got into London it was blocked. Took it to the Tottenham Court Road branch and they refunded me then and there.

Hmm I have bought a few phones from cex and on the one which went wrong, I came out top because it was blocked after about a year. However they still gave me the full value of what I had spent initially and it was within minutes.

Thanks for the comments. I'll see what kind of condition the phone arrives in. Some 'grade B' ones seem to come mint - if I luck out with one of those, worth hanging onto? Or would people rather pay the £100 more to buy new?

I bought on a credit card, so if it gets blocked and cex don't refund I'll just go to the card company.

Phone arrived boxed, but not mint - a little chip out of the metal on one corner, though screen looks unmarked as far as I can see. Would people buy new in preference to secondhand at this price?
