Did you dislike the first one?

The gameplay was decent but uninventive.
Luckily it didn’t drag on too long.

Both characters good.
Writing was ok.

First one was overall good.

Really enjoyed this game, it has divided a lot of fans. Another perfectly great PS exclusive.

Never said never.

I know it’s significantly longer and my above comments stand. The gameplay would grate if stretched out.
Thanks reserved one for tomorrow
Hated the story, pacing and new characters, plus the game really does overstay its welcome. But besides that I loved the rest, gameplay and level design were top notch as were the visuals and AI. Worth a playthrough regardless.
Going by the mixed reviews, I see this dropping further in price. I think I may bite at £30 or less
Great gameplay, but didn't enjoy playing the story as a roided up golfer

This wasn't my cup of tea, and I love the first game. Definitely worth trying though.

That’s weird because the gaming press would have you believe the praise was uniform

Sorry. I didn't mean it to come out like that.

I found it clunky at times (I did for all the uncharted games as well). I know everyone loves naughty dog and rockstar, but for me, they are always so clunky and cumbersome in the control of the main character.

Can you give a few examples of gameplay that's great and inventive?

Gameplay in the second doesn't drag at all so I'm not sure why you assume it would in your other comment.

The gameplay in TLOU was standard cover shooter with stealth elements and some very mid puzzles. It’s not an insult (it was fine) it’s just a fact that it was quite basic. (You almost sound personally offended by that)

Good for you that the gameplay doesn’t drag. Like I said it was functional in the first but with the game indeed being longer in 2, I know that would negatively affect my enjoyment - and I’m not alone in that thought

Ps. It’s ok if people negatively criticise a game that you won’t.

I know this wasn't for me to reply to but found that first question a bit odd.

Great and Inventive gameplay games:
Shadow of the Colossus
The Sims (Original)
Portal
Little Big Planet
Hotline Miami

There's many others but that's what I can think of off the top of my head. Right first off, I love the first game, and I greatly respect the second game. But personally I agree with @odiedodie , the gameplay in the first game is its worst aspect. Doesn't make it bad AT ALL, in fact its quite fun, but its the same thing for the entire game. Its either typical stealth or janky BUT FUN brutal combat. Its exactly the same with the sequel. Definitely improved, but it wasn't something that could carry a 20-25 hour game. The first game was 10 hours, so it didn't drag. The second is over double that length, and it started to drag even before that 10 hour mark.

This is just my opinion though
Gameplay is much improved in the second. Combat feels incredibly brutal. The stealth works very well, particularly as there's nice big areas to drop in and out of stealth if you need to run. The encounters are also thought out a lot better in the second.

Out of curiosity, did you ever play days gone? Thoughts?

I love Days Gone. Really enjoyed its open world and loved its story. Plus the hordes were pretty fantastic. Its got its issues, a bit too long and its got some horrendous AI but i really, really enjoyed it. Top 5 exclusives for me no doubt
Best game I've ever played in my 26 years of gaming. I suggest people set the aiming sensitivity to at least 7, get a 4k tv, ps4 Pro, decent surround sound, turn the lights down, sit back and immerse yourself in the greatness

It being longer negatively affecting your attention span gives a massive predetermined expectation of why you didn't like.
It's brutal,it's stealthy if you want to play it that way or it's an all out explosion of violence.
I'm loving it.....
Think for yourself if it's not for you it's not for you ....play it and see .

This is exactly how I played it(minus changing the sensitivity). The music in this game is quite amazing.

Really don't understand the negative reviews. Best game on ps4 for me.
Are people really complaining that the game is too long?

If the game was 10hours long you'd all be complaining its too short...

You dont have to play it all in one sitting you know...

Its not so much I'm complaining its too long, and that "Not playing it in one sitting" will make it better. Its that to me it doesn't justify its length of 20-25 hours. There's a bit too much padding and the game-play is not interesting enough. I don't think its a bad game at all, nowhere near that, I just don't think its that genre defining masterpiece everyone says it is. That's video-games for you though, they're subjective, they're art, its peoples opinions. I'll be honest i'm glad people love it as much as they do, i just really wish I was one of them.

Edit: The first game is 10 hours and it was the perfect length.

Definitely man, I played first on normal with normal sensitivity but on my hard+ and survive+ mode I bumped it up to 7 and it felt so more natural, made the game easy, which was the only thing that did disappoint but still amazing game, game of the decade in my eyes

Yeah not sure why that is necessarily a complaint. I am still yet to play the game but I'd love it that it's not short.

Im suprised that they didnt keep the second half of the game for some future DLC, probably would have been better received then.

Or they could have given you a choice at the start who you play as (similar to RE2).

Who knows, maybe this means we might get to play as joel in a future DLC....
